  • Birla Institute of Technology & Science (shortened BITS or BITS, Pilani) is an Indian institute of higher education and a deemed university.
  • The university has 15 academic departments and focuses primarily on undergraduate education in engineering and the sciences and on its management programme.
  • It is widely known as the best private engineering institute and stands among the top Engineering and B-Schools of India.
  • The institute was established in 1964. During this period, the institute's transformation from a regional engineering college to a national university was backed by GD Birla. BITS has established centers at Hyderabad, Pilani, Goa, and Dubai.
  • BITS administers the all-India computerized competitive entrance examination, BITSAT (BITS Admission Test), Admission is merit-based, as assessed by the BITSAT 2018 examination. The fully residential institute is privately supported.
  • BITSAT 2018 is an admission test conducted for Bachelor’s level and Masters’ level engineering as well as pharmacy courses by the prestigious Birla Institute of Science and Technology. 
  • The BITSAT 2018 examination is taken for admission to their renowned group of colleges.
  • This is a purely merit-based examination and has 0% reservation. The admission is provided based on the merit list only.
  • This examination takes place on 20th May 2018 and enables candidates to seek admissions for Bachelors’ programs in the three colleges managed by Birla Institute of Technology and Science.
  • Every year, lakhs of students compete for a total of 2000 seats. The candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria can apply for the computer based online examination of BITSAT 2018. The result is followed by counselling sessions for the candidates.
  • Toppers from all the Education Boards are not required to take up the BITSAT 2018 examination and they are given direct admissions to any of the BITS campuses.

Important notes: 

  • There is no reservation of seats through BITSAT 2018.
  • The courses are normally for the duration of 4 years but the students are given an option to complete them before/after time.  
  • Those students admitted to M.Sc. are eligible to apply for a dual degree.
  • They can choose B.E (Hons.) or B.Pharm (Hons.), the duration of the same will be five years.

Important Instructions laid out by BITS, Pilani:

  • Before starting your online application keep readily scanned images of Photograph and Signature in the format of jpg/jpeg only.
  • The size of photo image must be between 10KB to 30KB.
  • The size of signature image must be between 2KB to 20KB.
  • After completing the form online, you can take a print out of the filled-in form for your future reference.
  • The last date for applying by completing the online application form along with prescribed fee is 5:00 PM on 6th March 2018.
  • You are not required to send this form by post.
  • While filling the online application form you will be asked for center preferences. You can choose the centers from within India or Dubai.
  • If you choose centers within India you will be asked to give three preferences and will be allotted one out of the three.
  • If you Choose Dubai as a center you will not be asked for any other center preference and you will be allotted Dubai Center only.
  • If you choose centers within India, Application Fee for male candidates will be INR 2750 and for female candidates, it will be INR 2250.
  • If you choose Dubai as a center, the Application Fee for both male and female candidates will be the same and will be US$ 60 (or INR 4000 Indian Rupees).
  • Before printing out the filled-in application form, the system will generate a unique application number for you.
  • Note down the number as it will be required for all future correspondences.
  • If you do not have a printer attached to the computer while filling your online application, you can complete the application process and take the printout of the application form later by entering your personal details and the unique application number.
  • While applying online, do not use the 'Back' button on the toolbar of your browser.
    Use the links and buttons available on the page to move from one page to another. When you have completed applying, close all the open browser windows so that others cannot copy your personal details.
  • After successful completion of the application process, you may check the application fee payment status in the Query Section.
  • The candidate is allowed to fill and submit only one online application form.
  • Multiple applications of a candidate are liable to be rejected.

BITSAT 2018 Mock Test 2018:

The mock test of BITSAT 2018 is now available for all candidates who will be participating in the entrance examination. The candidates will have to download and execute the file to access the mock test.

The test scores will be generated after the candidates select the completed button. The mock test of BITSAT 2018 can be used in the preparation for the examination. The candidates will have to select which section they want to attempt first and go on to answer the multiple choice questions. Options of skipping to other parts, marking for review, going to the next questions and completing the test will be provided.

Compared to the 3-hour long entrance examination, the mock test of BITSAT 2018 will be only 30 minutes long. The BITSAT 2018 exam is divided into 4 sections:

BITSAT 2018 Important Dates

  • The BITSAT Application Forms will be available from 8th January 2018
  • The last date for submission of BITSAT Application Form is 2nd March 2018 
  • BITSAT Application Forms can be corrected in the month of March 2018.
  • BITSAT 2018 Exam center allotment will be in the month of March 2018.
  • Candidate can reserve test dates in March 2018.

  • The Online test will be conducted on 20th May 2018

BITSAT 2018 Eligibility

  • Candidates should have passed their 10+2 examination with a minimum of 75% marks from any
    recognised board to be eligible for BITSAT 2018.
  • Eligibility Criteria for B.E. (Hons.) and M.Sc. (Tech.): Candidates should have passed their 12th standard examination from the Central or State Board. Candidates must have passed Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in Class 12 and scored an aggregate of 75% in these subjects. Candidates should have secured a minimum of 60% marks in each subject mentioned above to be eligible for BITSAT. Candidates need to be proficient in English.
  • Eligibility Criteria for B.Pharm (Hons.): Candidates should have passed their 12th standard examination from the Central or State Board. Candidates must have passed Biology, Physics, and Chemistry in Class 12 and scored an aggregate of 75% in these subjects. Candidates should have secured minimum 60% marks in each subject mentioned above to be eligible for BITSAT. Students with physics, chemistry, and mathematics are also eligible to apply for this course.
  • Age Limit: Candidates have to be between 21 to 25 years as on October 1st, 2018.
  • Merit: Candidates will be selected only on the basis of merit.
  • Direct admission: Candidates who have secured the 1st rank get direct admission provided they produce proof.
  • Eligibility regarding supplementary examination: Students who appeared for the supplementary examination in their 12th are eligible to appear for BITSAT only if the attempt has been for all the prescribed subjects.
  • Eligibility regarding students who are part of BITS: Students who are currently studying in any of the BITS colleges are not eligible to appear for the test.
 

BITSAT 2018 Application Process

  • The BITSAT Application Process will begin on 8th January 2018 
  • Application process: Candidates can login to the official website to apply for the BITSAT examination. Fill in their personal and education details. Select the subject to be taken. Choose three preferred exam centres. Click on Submit and note the application number.
  • Payment of the fees: The Application Form Fees to BITSAT for male candidates is Rs. 2200 and for female candidates it is Rs. 1700. For NRI students it is $50(varies according to the foreign currency exchange rate).
  • Mode of payment: Debit Card/Credit Card and Net Banking or through the e-challan from any ICICI bank within India.
 

BITSAT 2018 Application Form Details

  • The BITSAT Application Forms are available online and candidates can apply through the Official Website.
  • Candidates are required to pay the Application Form Fee online and take a printout of the filled in BITSAT Application Form for future reference.
  • The BITSAT Application Forms will be available from 8th January 2018 
  • The last date of submission of BITSAT Application Forms is 2nd March 2018.
  • The BITSAT 2018 correction window will be opened in the month of March 2018.
  • BITSAT 2018 Exam centres will be allotted in the month of March 2018.
  • Candidates can reserve the BITSAT test dates from the 5th of April 2018.
  • BITSAT 2018 Admit cards can be downloaded from 16th April 2018.
  • BITSAT 2018 will be between 20th May 2018  to 27th May 2018.
  • The BITSAT 2018 Result will be declared on 1st July 2018.

BITSAT 2018 Admit Card

  • Date: BITSAT Admit cards can be downloaded from 16th April 2018.
  • The BITSAT Admit Card is available online and is equivalent to a hall ticket.
  • Details: The BITSAT Admit Card contains details regarding date, time, the centre of examination, etc.
  • The BITSAT Admit Card is a mandatory document and only an Admit Card downloaded from the official website is considered valid.
  • Identity Proof: Candidates are required to carry an identity proof with the admit card.
  • Admit card download: Candidates are required to download the BITSAT Admit Card from the Official Website by entering their application number, gender and date of birth.
  • Candidates have to download and print the BITSAT Admit Card and take a few copies of the admit card itself. They have to save the BITSAT Admit Card till the admission procedure ends.
  • In case candidates forget their BITSAT Application Number they can access it using the link provided on the mail ID.

BITSAT 2018 Exam Pattern

  • Online Exam: The BITSAT exam is a computer based exam.
  • Language Medium: The BITSAT exam is conducted in English.
  • Type of questions: BITSAT includes 150 objective type questions.
  • Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, English and Logical Reasoning.
  • Duration: BITSAT is for a duration of three hours without break.
  • The Number of sections: BITSAT has four sections for the five subjects.
  • Marking Scheme: For every correct answer 3 marks will be awarded and for every incorrect answer 1 mark is deducted. There is no deduction of marks for unattempted questions.
  • Maximum marks: The maximum marks is 450 marks for BITSAT.
  • Subject-wise mark allocation: Physics, Chemistry, English, Logical Reasoning and Mathematics/Biology have 40, 40, 15, 10 and 45 questions respectively.
  • The Maximum number of questions that can be attempted: Candidates capable of answering 150 questions within the specified time (without skipping any question) can attempt an additional 12 questions (four each from Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry only).

BITSAT 2018 Syllabus

  • The syllabus for the BITSAT exam has many topics. Each of their topics has a wide range of topics to be studied.
  • Physics: The topics under the Physics syllabus is as below:
    Units and Measurement, Kinematics, Newton's Law of Motion, Impulse and Momentum, Work and Energy, Rotation Motion, Gravitation, Mechanics of Solids and Fluids, Oscillations, Waves, Heat and Thermodynamics, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effect of Current, Electromagnetic Induction, Optics, Modern Physics and Electronic Devices.
  • Chemistry: The topics under the Chemistry syllabus is as below:
    States of Matter, Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, Thermodynamics, Physical and Chemical Equilibria, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Hydrogen and s-block elements, p-d- and f- block elements, Principles of Organic Chemistry and Hydrocarbons, Stereochemistry, Organic Compounds with Functional Groups containing Oxygen and Nitrogen, Biological, Industrial and Environment Chemistry and Theoretical Principles of Experimental Chemistry.
  • English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning: The topics under the English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning syllabus is as below:
    English Proficiency, Grammar, Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, Composition, Verbal Reasoning and Non-verbal Reasoning.
  • Mathematics: The topics under the Mathematics syllabus is as below:
    Algebra, Trigonometry, Two-dimensional Coordinate Geometry, Three-dimensional Coordinate Geometry, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Ordinary Differential Equations, Probability, Vectors, Statistics, Linear Programming and Mathematical modelling.
  • Biology: The topics under the Biology syllabus is as below:
    Diversity in Living World, Cell: The Unit of Life; Structure and Function, Genetics and Evolution, Structure and Function-Plants, Structure and Function-Animals, Reproduction, Growth and Movement in Plants, Reproduction and Development in Humans, Ecology and Environment, Biology and Human Welfare and Biotechnology and its Applications.

BITSAT 2018 Results

  • The BITSAT Results are announced online on the Official Website.
  • The components of the BITSAT Results are the BITSAT results and the 12th results.
  • Score cards can be downloaded immediately or later on.
  • The merit list is prepared by the examination conducting authority and it divided into the Admit list and the waiting list.
  • Merit list: There will be two separate merit list which is the list for all programmes except B.Pharm and a list only for B.Pharm.
  • Tie- break: Maths/Biology scores will be used to break a tie. If the tie still persists, the Physics and then Chemistry scores will be compared.
  • The BITSAT 2018 cut off (expected) at Pilani Campus for the courses is as follows: 
    B.E.(Hons.) - It ranges from 308 to 352.
    B.Pharm. (Hons.) - 266.
    M.Sc.(Hons.) - It ranges from 284 to 308.

     

  • The BITSAT 2018 cut off (expected) at Goa Campus for the courses is as follows: 
    B.E.(Hons.) - It ranges from 279 to 323.
    M.Sc.(Hons.) - It ranges 268 to 282.

 
  • The BITSAT 2018 cut off (expected) at Hyderabad Campus for the courses is as follows: 
    B.E.(Hons.) - It ranges form 277 to 316.
    B.Pharm. (Hons.) - The cut-off is 272.
    M.Sc.(Hons.) - It ranges from 266 to 282.

BITSAT 2018 Counselling

  • Date: The counselling process for BITSAT will begin in 23rd July 2018  and will end in the 2nd week of August 2018.
  • Number of rounds: There will be four rounds of counselling for BITSAT.
  • Closing date for receiving the admission forms and announcement of Iteration 1 admission assignment will be in the end of June 2018.
  • Announcement of admission and waiting list after Iteration 1 will be in the 1st week of July 2018.
  • Closing date for admission of advance fees and announcement of Iteration 2 admission assignment will be in the 2nd week of July 2018.
  • Announcement of admission assignment after Iteration 2 will be in the 2nd week of July 2018.
  • Closing date for payment of the balance fee by the candidates selected for admission from the waiting list in Iteration 2 and announcement of Iteration 3 admission assignment will be in the 4th week of July 2018.
  • Announcement of admission assignment after Iteration 3 will be in the 4th week of July 2018.
  • Reporting at the campuses for admission and the announcement of Iteration 4 admission assignment will be in the 4th week of July 2018.
  • Announcement of admission assignment after Iteration 4 will be in the 4th week of July 2018.

  • I appeared for the JEE MAIN Mains last year and enrolled into CET. I also appeared for the BITSAT and other such entrances. I qualified for the JEE MAIN mains and opted for mechanical engineering as the first choice to which I got selected. 
  • The cut-offs for mechanical engineering generally stays high. Last year too the bar was SET high.

  • The ELIGIBILITY Criteria to join Birla Institute of Technology and Science is:
  • You must have strictly secured more than 75% marks in your respective Board Examination.
  • To get admitted you have to clear BITSAT (The Entrance Exam) - An online exam which tests your concepts, speed and accuracy.

    Thus, You can score a possible 486 in the Exam if you correctly answer all 162 questions.

  • The competition is tough as 70 students compete for 1 seat and your speed and accuracy will determine how you perform.

The Application Form to BITSAT 2017 can be submitted until the 10th of March 2017.

The Board will also provide you with a Window of correction for the BITSAT Application Forms from the 7th to the 10th of March.

All candidate are advised to give in their Application Form Fees to BITSAT before the 10th of March as well.

There is no separate procedure for those students who wish to be admitted through BITSAT 2017. They have to apply similar to Indian students and to provide an equivalence certificate from AIU at the time of applying for Admissions later.

I passed 12th in 2016. I didn't get 75% aggregate in PCM. Am I eligible if I repeat some of the subjects to get the required 75% marks?

If you are repeating 12th exam, you should do it for the all the subjects as required by the board to pass 12th again. If you take improvement exams in PCM/PCB only, you are not eligible.
