Admission Process for CAT 2018:

The counselling dates for CAT 2018 is released by Indian Institute of Management.

  • Postgraduate, Executive, and Doctoral are the main programmes offered by the IIMs.
  • The widely popular programme of IIMs is- Post Graduate Diploma - known as MBA. 
  • After the CAT Results are announced, the list of selected candidates is put up for each of the IIMs separately.
  • The Counselling and Admission process for all the IIMs is done separately. 
  • CAT Admission is based on merit and a rigorous selection process that consists of CAT scores, Group Discussions (GD), Essay Writing, Personal Interview (PI), and other factors.
  • In recent years, it is seen that the IIMs tend to give more weight to the Written test and not the group discussion.
  • The Group Discussion is not as preferable as the other steps. 
  • The Personal Interview is a very important step and can be the deciding factor in the Candidate's selection in the IIMs.

CAT 2018 Written Ability Test:

 The aspirants must also be prepared for the subsequent rounds of CAT Selection process also. IIMs have preferred Ability Test (WAT) over Group Discussion (GD) round. 11  out of the 19 IIMs have removed the Group Discussion round from their selection process. In fact, a few IIMs like IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode still conduct both Ability test and GD for selection of candidates.

Written Ability Test Analyzes the candidate’s critical thinking ability, and their ability to solve the problems precisely and clearly.

As part of Written Ability Test, a student will have to write a paragraph essay on a given topic.

The time duration of the test can vary among the IIM colleges. At IIM Bangalore the test-takers were given 30 minutes, while at IIM Lucknow the test was of 15 minutes duration.

At IIM Ahmedabad, the duration of this test was still low, i.e., 10 minutes.A candidate must improve his writing skills to score good marks in WAT. While the structure is important, since time is limited, a student must not spend too much time in planning the structure of the essay. A candidate must try to put in as many clear ideas in their essay as possible.

CAT #year Group Discussion

Group Discussion is a part of the selection procedure for admission to IIMs. In this stage, generally, a group of 5-6 students are given one topic. This round includes the ability of a candidate to communicate their idea clearly to a group. The candidate must be Highly convincing and reasonable.It also helps shortlist candidates who do well in group discussion good team players.The topics for group discussion, for each and every group, will be varied. The topics are based National and International Politics, Current Affairs, topics of socialism, so be prepared by reading newspapers daily and be updated socially. CAT 2018 Personal Interview:

Personal Interview is very important part of shortlisting procedure for IIM. Each IIM compulsorily has Personal Interview round for selection of candidates. So develop some soft skills and be prepared for Face to face interviews.The questions may be asked in an IIM interview based on  Personal life, Academic Record, Extra-curricular activities, work experience, hobbies and some technical questions.
