Application Procedure for IIT JAM 2018

The steps for applying for IIT JAM 2018 are mentioned below in detail:

  • Go to the official website of JAM Online Application Processing System at
  • Register yourself at the IIT JAM website by providing your name, email address, valid mobile number and create a password.
  • After successful IIT JAM registration, an email containing applicant’s enrollment number will be sent to the registered mobile number (provided by the candidate)
  • Now login to JAM 2018 application processing website and fill in information, such as your parent/guardian's name and mobile number, choice of city, and choice of test paper(s) that you wish to appear, date of birth, gender, address for communication, category and PwD status.
  • You are also required to provide your education qualification.
  • Upload a scanned copy of your photograph, signature, and SC/ST/PwD certificate (if applicable)
  • Review your IIT JAM application for one final time and submit.
  • Pay the IIT JAM application fee and submit.

Sir, I have 2450 rank in IIT JAM Physics 2017. So in which institutions can I get admission other than IIT, IISC, IISER?

To get an admission to other prestigious institutes than the IIT's, you must make sure your marks scored is enough for the cut off at the respective institute.

Your rank just serves as an opportunity of priority to these institutes.

Your personal capabilities and performance during the interview section and the marks scored in respect to the cut-offs are the main factors that affect your admissions to these institutes.

To know your possibilities, go on to the official website of the institute you wish to get admitted to where you will find the cut-off marks for IIT JAM.

A candidate can apply for either one or two out of the seven JAM test papers subject to the restriction imposed by the Test Schedule given in the Information Brochure or JAM 2017 website.

The choice of the appropriate test paper(s) is the responsibility of the candidate.

A candidate is required to fill his/her primary as well as secondary choices because,

  • Generally, you will be allotted a center in the examination city of your first choice.
  • Only in cases, where it becomes difficult to accommodate you in the examination city of your first choice, your other two choices will be considered.

If you have clicked on the 'Save' button during the application process, the data you entered up to that point of time has been stored online.

Simply login back to the JAPS website and continue the application process.

If the data is not saved, you have to start the process afresh.

You can make the application fee payment during the application process through either of the following modes:

  • Online payment from your net banking/debit card/credit card through the payment gateway.
  • Payment in cash at any SBI Branch using the challan generated through SBI's payment gateway MOPS.

You are asking only the SC/ST/ PwD candidates to upload the category certificate. What about the OBC candidates? Do I have to upload my OBC-NCL certificate too?

No, you don't need to upload your OBC-NCL certificate at the time of applying for IIT JAM 2017 examination.

Category certificate is required at this stage only to claim the concessional rate for the application fee.

My net banking account/debit card/credit card has been debited (money is taken out) more than once. How do I get the money back?

This can happen if your bank account/debit card/credit card was used more than once or you pressed refresh or back/forward button of your internet browser.

Any unaccounted or excess money that was received on behalf of JAM 2015 from this account will automatically be returned to the same bank account.

Similarly, any unaccounted or excess money received from debit card/credit card account will be credited back to the same account.
