Exam Pattern for JEE Advanced 2018

JEE Advanced exam has two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2.

  • Candidates have to appear for both the papers compulsorily.
  • Each paper containing 3 sections each (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics).
  • Duration of JEE Advanced Paper 1 & JEE Advanced Paper 2 is 3 hours each.
  • The JEE Advanced test will be online (Computer) or Offline (Pen and Paper).
  • The JEE Advanced paper consists of objective type questions which include MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) and Numerical type questions.
  • The JEE Advanced papers are available in English and Hindi.
  • AAT is the architecture exam that is Pen-Paper based.
  • The language of this paper will be in English. Candidates appearing in this paper will have to bring the admit card of JEE Advanced.

JEE Advanced 2017 Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT)

         Exam Mode: AAT Exam will be held through offline mode only (Pen Paper Based).

  • Number of Paper: The question paper will be composed of one paper.
  • Number of Sections: It comprises of three sections: Mathematics, Aptitude Test & Drawing Test.
  • Question Paper Type: There will be objective type questions will be asked.
  • Exam Duration: The duration of exam will be 3 hours.
  • Language: The medium of the question paper will be English only.

OPTICAL RESPONSE SHEET (ORS): 

  • The candidate answer sheet of each paper of JEE (Advanced) 2018 is a machine‐readable ORS.
  • The first page of the ORS is machine readable. It is designed so as to leave impressions of the responses on the second page of the ORS.
  • Candidates are responsible for their respective ORS and should not separate or disturb the alignment of the two pages of the ORS at any stage and under any circumstance.
  • All candidates must use a BLACK POINT PEN only for darkening of bubbles and adequate pressure should be applied to ensure that the bubble is marked.
  • The second page of the ORS will be handed over to the candidates by the invigilator at the end of the examination.

I am interested in doing B. Arch from an IIT. Should I appear for paper 1 in JEE Main, paper 2 or both the papers?

  • For admission to all the undergraduate courses in IIT, whether it be engineering or architecture programs, candidates have to write Paper 1 of JEE Main only. Students for B. Arch in IITs will be selected only on the basis of their All India Rank in JEE Advanced but they will have to qualify for the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) also, which will be conducted in zonal IITs on the 4th Week of June.
    If you make it to the top 1,50,000 rank holders in JEE Main, you should make sure that you register online for the AAT during the 4th Week of June.

What is the format of JEE (Advanced) exam?

  • JEE Advancedis conducted only in pen and paper or offline mode. It is inclusive of two separate papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both have objective-type and multiple-choice questions and has three parts – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Duration of both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are three hours.
    The language of the question paper will be in either Hindi or English. Candidates can choose the language while registering for the exam.
