Eligibility Criteria for NEET UG 2018

The eligibility criteria is a set of requirements based on which candidates are classified as eligible or not eligible for the NEET 2018 exam. The eligibility criteria will also be important as it filters out the applicants that are not suitable/eligible. 

All candidates must go through the eligibility criteria of NEET before applying fo NEET 2018. The candidates who are not eligible by the following normalities will not be allowed to write the exam.

Hence, all candidates must ensure that they are eligible before applying for NEET.

Eligibility criteria of NEET require the following:

  • The NEET applicants must be of an Indian national or OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) to be eligible for NEET according to the eligibility criteria for NEET 2018.
  • The applicants must have aged between 17 to 25 years as on 31st December of the admission year (for reserved applicants maximum age limit is 30 years) to be eligible for NEET 2018 according to the eligibility criteria.
  • The applicants must have qualified 12th standard or equivalent examination from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology & Mathematics or any other elective subjects with English (appearing applicants can also apply) to be eligible for NEET 2018 according to the eligibility criteria.
  • The NEET applicants must have scored minimum 50% in PCB group (45% for general PH and 40% for SC/ST/OBC) to be eligible for NEET 2018 according to the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility criteria for 85% State Quota Seats:

All the states participating in the NEET 2018 will fill their 85% seats of MBBS/BDS  through state counselling, while the remaining 15% of the seats will be filled through All India centralised counselling. The eligibility for the 85% quota seats of the states are mentioned below:

  • Candidates must have completed/appearing his/her 10th and 12th from the state to be eligible for NEET 2018 according to the eligibility criteria.
  • Candidates must possess a valid domicile of the state to satisfy the eligibility criteria for NEET 2018.
  • Candidates should possess a residency proof of the state to be eligible for NEET 2018 according to the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility criteria for NEET for Seats in Participating Bodies:

There are many institutes/universities that are participating in the NEET 2018, some of them include Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Jamia Hamdard University, University of Delhi.

  • The Overseas Citizen of India may also appear the exam subject to the rules of government of India to be eligible for NEET 2018 according to the eligibility criteria.
  • The upper age limit shall be considered as per the rules of states/ universities/ institutions for those candidates, seeking admission under the control of participating Institutions/ Universities/ States.

Eligibility criteria for NEET candidates from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J&K candidates:

  • The NEET candidates belonging to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J&K are not eligible for the 15% all India quota seats.
  • They have to attach a self-declaration generated and printed along with the confirmation page if they claim the eligibility for NEET 2018 according to the eligibility criteria.
  • The candidates can appear for NEET 2018 Admission process for various Private Medical/Dental Colleges or any Private/Deemed University and AFMC, Pune if they fulfil the NEET 2018 Eligibility for the same.

What will be the Eligibility Criteria of NEET 2017 for the Reserved and Unreserved category?

Anyone who studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 10+2 and secured 50%. Also at the time of admission at least completing 17 years (lower age limit) will be eligible to apply. Yes, now all foreign nationals, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) candidates are eligible to apply for 15% all India quota seats. Earlier, 15% all India quota seats were reserved for Indian nationals only for NEET 2017.

I belong to the state of Andhra Pradesh. Am I eligible for MBBS/BDS admission under All India 15 % quota seats through NEET?

No, candidates from the States of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J & K are not eligible for 15% all India quota seats through NEET as these States had opted out of All India Scheme since its inception. If a candidate appearing from any of these states seeks admission under 15 % all India Quota seats, he/she will have to submit the online Self Declaration form along with the application form. The declaration form in such case will make the candidate ineligible for admission in MBBS/BDS programmes in these states.
