Eligibility Criteria for NEST 2018

The eligibility criteria for NEST 2018 are as follows:

  • Applicant must have cleared their 12th or equivalent exam with any combination of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology subjects to satisfy the eligibility criteria to write NEST 2018.
  • Applicants who have cleared their 12th standard or equivalent exams in the year 2015 or 2016 are eligible to apply for NEST 2018.
  • Applicants who cleared their 12th standard or equivalent exams before 2015 are not eligible to apply for NEST 2018.
  • Applicants who are about to appear for their qualifying exams for 12th standard or equivalent can also apply.
  • In order to get enrolled in the M.Sc program, the applicants must have secured minimum 60% for General category and minimum 55% for SC, ST, and PD category in the 12th standard or equivalent exam to satisfy the eligibility criteria for NEST 2018.

Age Limit for NEST 2018:

  • Applicants must have born on or after 1 August 1997 (for general and OBC candidates).
  • The SC, ST, and PD (Physically Disabled) applicants are given a relaxation of five years in the above age limit.

Yes, you are eligible for NEST. The candidate should be mandatorily from science stream with any combination of science subjects. However, the students have all the four subjects in the first year of college.

There is no restriction for candidates applying for NEST. Thus, for programmes through NEST in NISER or CBS:

  • The candidate belonging from the General or OBC category, the candidate eligible should be born on or after August 01, 1996
  • Candidates from SC or ST or PWD has a relaxation of 5 years

The candidates applying for NEST should be from science stream having a mandatory combination of Biology or Chemistry or Mathematics or Physics at class XII. The candidate has to pass Higher Secondary Exam or any equivalent exam with a minimum of 60%. He should also take up NESTexam for the upcoming academic year.
