What is NIFT?

The National Institute Of Fashion Technology (NIFT) was set up in the year 1986 under the aegis of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. NIFT has 15 campuses which provide students with a foundation in fashion technology education.

The following is the list of courses offered by NIFT:

Undergraduate Courses offered by NIFT:

  • Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) in Accessory Design, Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Knitwear Design, Textile Design, Leather Design
  • Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech) in Apparel Production

Post-Graduate Courses offered by NIFT:

  • Master of Design (M.Des) – Design Space
  • Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M)
  • Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech)

Students who are successful at the NIFT entrance will sit for subsequent rounds:

  • Situation Test for candidates applying for B. Des course in NIFT
  • Group Discussion (GD)/Personal Interview (PI) for candidates seeking admission in Masters in Fashion Technology (M. F Tech.), Masters in Fashion Management (MFM) and Masters in Design (M. Des) at NIFT.

Candidates for B.F. Tech will be selected on the basis of GAT score. NIFT 2018 Results will be declared in the Final week of May/June-2018. The counseling process of the NIFT 2018 will commence from June 2018, with the session starting from late July / early August onwards.

 

 

 

 


Reservation of Seats:

Seats in NIFT are reserved for different categories on the basis of the following criteria:

*A total of 15% supernumerary seats are reserved for Foreign Nationals in each program at NIFT Delhi, NIFT Mumbai, NIFT Kolkata, NIFT Bengaluru, NIFT Chennai, NIFT Hyderabad, NIFT Gandhinagar and NIFT Raebareli.

Therefore, 5 seats are reserved for Foreign Nationals (whether residing in India or Abroad) and NRI at NIFT, who are citizens of India and hold an Indian passport and have temporarily migrated to another country for the past 6 months or more for work, residence or any other purpose.

The admission to NIFT programs for Foreign Nationals/NRI Candidates would be conducted on basis of following examinations.

Bachelor Programme (B.Des & B.FTech) of NIFT

SAT-1 Score

Masters Programme (MFM) of NIFT

GMAT Score

Master Programme (M.Des & M.FTech) of NIFT

GRE Score

Foreign candidates will be allocated their campus or program in NIFT on the basis of their scores in the merit list.

They have the flexible to opt for as many SAT / GMAT  / GRE tests before April 30, 2018. Such candidates who are seeking admission under the Foreign Nationals and NRI category in NIFT are mandated to apply through the official website. The last date to apply in NIFT would be April 30, 2016.

They also need to obtain equivalent certificates of their foreign degrees from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, prior to admission in NIFT. A Special NRI Test would be conducted for admission to seats reserved under NRI quota. Candidates having Common Merit Rank (CMR) as well as fresh candidates can apply for the NIFT test, subject to fulfilment of academic and documentation requirements. The NIFT Test/Interview would be conducted at New Delhi Center.

NIFT 2018 Important Dates

  • Commencement of online registration: The NIFT online application process will generally commence in 2nd November 2017 
  • Last date of online registration. The last date of online registration without late fee is 10th January 2018 . However, the last date of online registration with late fee is 16th January.
  • Availability of admit card: The admit card will be made available from 5th February 2018  onwards.
  • NIFT exam date: The NIFT exam will be held on 12th February 2018 .
  • Situation test/GD/ Interview for NIFT: The NIFT situation test/group discussion/interview will usually take place in the month of April and May.
  • NIFT result date: The NIFT results are usually declared on 2nd June 2018 .
  • Counseling session: The counseling sessions are usually in 13th June 2018 .

NIFT 2018 Eligibility

Eligibility Criteria for UG programs

  • Eligibility Criteria for Bachelor of Design: The applicant should not cross 23 years of age as on 1st October 2016. However, there is a relaxation of 5 years on the maximum age limit for SC/ST/ Physically handicapped persons. The candidate should have passed 12th grade from a recognised board in order to be eligible for NIFT exam.
  • Eligibility Criteria for Bachelor of Fashion Technology: The candidate should have passed 10th and 12th from a recognised board with Physics and Chemistry as their subjects. Candidates holding a diploma certificate of 3 to 4 years in Engineering, recognised by AICTE will also be eligible for B.FTech.

Eligibility Criteria for PG programs

  • Eligibility Criteria for M.Des: The candidate must hold a minimum of 3 years diploma in Undergraduate design from NIFT/NID or they must possess an Undergraduate degree from a recognised institute.
  • Eligibility Criteria for M.F.M: The candidate must hold a minimum of 3 years Undergraduate diploma from NIFT/NID or they must possess an Undergraduate degree from a recognised institute.
  • Eligibility Criteria for M.F.Tech: The candidate must hold a B.Tech/B.E from a recognised institute or a B.F.Tech from NIFT.

NIFT 2018 Application Process

  • NIFT Application procedure: Candidates must go to the NIFT official website and click on the link for online registration. The application form will appear on the screen. The required details must be filled in and the documents must be attached. The NIFT application fee must be paid and the form must be submitted.
  • Generation of username and password: Once the NIFT application form is submitted, the username and password will be sent to the registered mobile number and email ID.

NIFT 2018 Application Form Details

  • Mode of Application: The mode of application for NIFT is online. Applicants must go on the NIFT official website in order to register for the exam.
  • Application fee: The NIFT application fee is Rs. 1,500 for General/OBC candidates. For SC/ST/PHP candidates, the application fee is Rs. 750. In case of online registration with late fee, it would amount to Rs. 5,000.
  • Mode of Payment of application fee: The application fee can be paid either online or through Demand Draft.

NIFT 2018 Admit Card

  • Steps to download NIFT admit card: The candidates must click on the link mentioned in the email in order to download the admit card. The next step is to log in to the user account using the link. Further, the candidate must click on the link to download the admit card and a PDF format of the NIFT admit card will be generated. The NIFT admit card must be printed and kept for future use.
  • Details in NIFT admit card: The NIFT admit card will contain details like name of the candidate, roll number. application number etc.
  • Guidelines regarding admit card: Candidates must ensure that their details in the admit card are correct. In case of any discrepancies, the candidate must contact the concerned authority. The admit card will not be sent by post, hence the candidates must download the admit card from the official website. Candidates must carry the NIFT admit card along with a valid photo ID to the exam centre failing which the candidate will not be allowed to enter the exam hall.

NIFT 2018 Exam Pattern

  • The NIFT exam is in offline mode. The exam has 2 parts i.e GAT and CAT.
  • The exam will be held for 2 hours and it will contain 150 questions. The question paper will be in English and there will be no negative marking.

NIFT 2018 Syllabus

  • Syllabus for GAT: Quantitative ability, Case Study, Effective communication etc.
  • Syllabus for CAT: Discernment ability, design ability etc.
  • Situation Test: The Situation test will be based on the performance in CAT and GAT. This test is designed in order to test a candidate's ability to handle material and invent on a specific situation using the given resources. They will be judged on space visualization, colour scheme, construction skill etc.

NIFT 2018 Results

  • The NIFT results can be checked by clicking on the link for results in the official website.
  • Once the results are declared, qualified students will be selected for interview and document verification.
  • Counselling session will be held for successful candidates after the results are declared.

NIFT 2018 Counselling

  • Counseling session will be held for those candidates who qualify in the exam.
  • Candidates must carry the required documents and certificates for the counseling process failing which the admission will get canceled.
  • In order to know the counseling dates, candidates must register themselves on the official website.
  • The counseling session will consist of 2 rounds. One is the GD round and the other is the Personal interview round.
  • The parameters for GD round is good communication skills, interpersonal skills, conceptual clarity etc.
  • The parameters for Personal Interview round is communication, aptness for the course etc.

  • National Institute of Fashion Technology or popularly know as NIFT is Asia's best fashion institute. But one must keep their minds open in order to what is fashion, design, and technology.
  • Online registration for entrance examination for NIFT starts from November up to mid of January. The exam is conducted in two phases and each phase has different subsets. Written exams take place in Feb, It is divided into two sections, first one is a multiple choice question paper which tests logical, mathematics, literature and general knowledge of the student and the second one is imaginative, interpretation and drawing test.

Yes, you can avail loans from your preferred banks once you've cleared NIFT and made your admissions clear.

The Union Bank of India provides pre-sanctioned loans for all candidates who qualify for NIFT admission.

There is hostel facility for girls in the campus on first come first serve basis. The girls hostel is monitored by a Lady Warden. There are two hostels one for junior girls and the other for senior girls. The hostel gate will be closed at 9.00 pm. There is no hostel facility available for boys.
