Eligibility Criteria for IBPS RRB 2018

Candidate can apply for any one RRB only. But you can apply for all the posts through a single application itself & mention the order of preference. In order to apply for these railway jobs, you have to fulfill the following eligibility conditions.

  • The applicant's age must be between 18 to 32 years (relaxation of 3yrs for OBC, Widows & Divorced women, 5yrs for SC/ST & 42 for PWD) as on 1/1/2017.
  • Medical clearance certificates.
  • Degree from a recognized university.

Commercial Apprentice, Enquiry cum Reservation Clerk, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Sr. Time Keeper

Distance Vision: 6/9, 6/9 without glasses

Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 without glasses

Must pass test for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision & Night Vision

Traffic Apprentice, Goods Guard, Assistant Station Master (ASM), Traffic Assistant

Distance Vision: 6/12, 6/18 with or without glasses

Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6, with or without glasses when reading


Educational Qualification related eligibility criteria for RRB 2018 Exam:

Graduation through regular mode:

  • The candidate should have completed graduation from a recognized Board / University / Institute
  • The candidate must have the result of the final examination available at the time of application.

Graduation through non formal / distance education:

In case, the candidate has a degree through non-formal / distance education, then they need to meet either of the two criteria mentioned below, in addition to those discussed for candidates who have completed their graduation through regular mode:

  • The candidate should have completed 12 years of schooling through an Examination conducted by a Board / University, OR
  • The candidate should have passed an entrance test by the University to enroll in a 3 year degree program through distance/non-formal education
  • The candidate also must have not been below 18 years of age as on 1st July of the year of admission to this course.

Typing Proficiency:

Typing proficiency is only required, if you are applying to specific posts of any RRB. These posts are Junior Accounts Assistant – cum – Typist, Senior Clerk – cum Typist and Sr. Time Keeper. While the typing proficiency is not required at the time of writing the Computer Based Test, a qualifying exam called, Typing Skill Test is conducted if you are shortlisted for the position, in the second round.

You should ensure that you are able to comfortably achieve the following typing proficiency after disabling editing and spell check tools:

  • English Language Typing: 30 words per minute
  • Hindi Language Typing: 25 words per minute in Kruti Dev or Mangal font.

Important note:

Candidates with more than 40% disability may be exempted from the Typing Test, provided they bring the Typing Skill Test Exemption Certificate to the Type Test Center.

If a candidate has a degree from a non-recognised university/institute then he/she should then meet the following criteria to be eligible for applying:

  • Candidate should have completed 12 years of schooling through an Examination conducted by a Board / University.
