An Overview on UGC NET 2018:

National Eligibility Test (NET) is a national level entrance exam conducted by University Grants Commission (UGC) for selecting the eligible candidates for the domains of lectureship and Junior Research Fellowships (JRF).

The clearance of the UGC NET exams ensures that the applicants meet the minimum standards required for teaching profession and research in several subjects of Humanities (including Indian and some foreign languages), Social Sciences, Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science, Forensic Science and Environmental Sciences.

The examination is conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) on behalf of the UGC to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the posts of Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship & Assistant Professor Both in Indian universities and colleges.

The UGC NET examination is conducted by CBSE in 83 subjects at 89 selected cities throughout the country in the months of July and January.

  • The role of CBSE is only up to the conduct of UGC NET Examination and declaration of result. The e-certificates to the qualified candidate are issued by UGC NET Bureau.

  • It has been announced that CBSE will conduct the 2018 UGC NET for Junior Research Fellowship and Eligibility for Assistant Professor on 22 January 2018, Sunday at certain cities across India, the CBSE declared in a statement on 8th September.
  • The detailed notification of UGC NET 2018 will be announced on 15th October 2016. Central Board of Secondary Education conducts UGC NET twice a year for UGC. The UGC NET test will be organised to select aspirants, for the appointment of assistant professor/ lecturer and for Junior Research Fellowships (JRF).

UGC NET 2018 Important Dates

  • Online Application Form submission starts from 17th of October.
  • Late date to apply for UGC NET exam is on 16th November.
  • The last date for submission of fee through online generated Bank Challan is 17th November.
  • UGC NET Admit Card will be availability by 21st of December.
  • UGC NET Examination will be held on 22nd of January.
  • UGC NET Results will be announced in June.

UGC NET 2018 Eligibility

  • Qualification:

At least 55% marks should be secured by candidates in Master Degree or equivalent Examination recognised by UGC.

The candidates belonging to the OBC/SC/ST/PWD categories should have completed Master’s degree or equivalent program with at least 50% of marks to be eligible for UGC NET.

  • Age Limit:

 Junior Research Fellowship: Candidates must not be above 28 years of age as on January 2017.

Assistant Professor: Candidates should be above 28 years of age as on January 2017.

 5 years age relaxation will be given to the candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD/OBC category and Women.

The age relaxation is also provisioned for the candidates with experience of research.

  • The categorical relaxation in age will be allowed on the ground of producing relevant certificates.
  • 10th standard marks sheet or passing certificate and DOB certificate needs to be submitted for proof of age.

UGC NET 2018 Application Process

  • The Applicants must read the conditions of eligibility carefully and must satisfy themselves regarding their eligibility for the Test before filling the online application and submitting the printout of Online Application Form.
  • Before applying Online, the Applicants should possess the Scanned passport size photograph in JPG format of minimum 4kb and less than 40 kb. The dimension of the photograph should be 3.5 cm (width) X 4.5 cm (height).
  • After filling all the details for applying online for NET the Applicants have to select the option of payment of examination fee either by credit/debit card or through e-challan generated during the online filling of the application form indicating your details therein and follow the process as mentioned.
  • Applicants seeking age relaxation must enclose the certificate of educational qualification/research experience entitling the Applicants for age relaxation.
  • The Application along with Bank Challan and other required documents must reach the Registrar/Principal of the Coordinating Institution.
  • The Applicants should retain the printout of online Admission card with them and will bring it on the day of examination after affixing the identical passport size photograph.
  • The Applicants must affix their recent identical passport size photographs, at the places indicated, on the printout of Online Application Form and Attendance Slip must sign across the photograph after it is affixed so that a part of the signature spreads over the Application Form and Attendance Slip beyond the photograph. Besides, it should be duly attested by the Head of the University Department/ Principal of the College/Class-I Gazetted Officer.

UGC NET 2018 Application Form Details

  • UGC NET Examination fee for General Category is Rs. 600, for OBC is Rs. 300, for SC/ST/PWD candidates the fee is Rs.150.
  • The exam fee can be paid by online method or by e-challan generated at the time of filling the application form.
  • Is it advised that to ensure that the fee has been successfully submitted, the candidate is required to check the status of fee payment at CBSE UGC website.
  • If the UGC NET exam fee is paid through e-challan by depositing cash in the above-mentioned bank, the candidate should contact the concerned bank immediately to update his/her fee status on the website.
  • If the UGC NET fee is paid through credit/debit card and status appears as not ‘OK’, it means the transaction has been canceled and the amount will be refunded.

UGC NET 2018 Admit Card

  • After successful registration for UGC NET exam, the Admit Card will become available to download online from the official website.
  • Candidates must make sure that all the details entered while registration is correct so that there are no mistakes in the admit card for UGC NET exam.
  • Candidates should visit UGC NET official website and enter the username and password to download UGC NET exam Admit Card.
  • Download the admit card and take a printout of it.

The admit card is equivalent to a hall ticket and candidates without a UGC NET admit card are not eligible to write the UGC NET 2017 exam.

Candidates must not tamper with the admit card. If any admit card is found to be tampered with, the candidate might be restricted from entering the UGC NET exam hall. Plagiarizing the UGC NET admit card is a punishable offence.

The details on the admit card should be checked by the candidates to ensure that correct details are mentioned on the admit card.

UGC NET 2018 Exam Pattern

The UGC NET exam consists of three papers:

  • All the candidates should attend paper 1 which consists of 60 questions, only 50 questions should be answered. Paper 1 duration is set to 75 minutes.
  • Paper 2 has 50 questions, all of this questions needs to be answered. the time duration for paper 2 is set to 75 minutes.
  • Paper 3 has 75 questions all of which are compulsory. the time duration for paper 3 is set to 150 minutes.
  • Marks Allotted: Paper 1: 100 marks, Paper 2: 100 marks, Paper 3: 150 marks.

UGC NET 2018 Results

Steps to check your UGC NET exam results:

  • Obtain minimum marks for each of the three papers. the minimum marks need to be obtained by candidates depends on the category they belong to(General, OBC etc).
  • Amongst candidates who will clear Step I, a merit list will then be prepared subject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate marks of all the three papers secured by such candidates.
  • The top 15 percent candidates according to the merit list are qualified for the Assistant Professor.
  • separate merit list for the award of Junior Research Fellow will be prepared from amongst the UGC NET qualified candidates figuring in the merit list.

Results are declared after assessing scores of all the papers of UGC NET exam.

UGC NET 2018 Counselling

  • The University Grants Commission releases the Counselling Schedule for National Eligibility Test. The CBSE will release the results of UGC NET exam.
  • Candidates who aspire to participate in UGC NET counselling must verify first.  Counseling of UGC NET will be conducted in the month of January.
  • The Important dates and the documents required for UGC NET counselling will be published on the website after the results are declared.
  • Candidates are required to bring thier Original Documnets and Certificate for Counselling.

The candidate attempting for NEET has to be aware of the following updates to NEET 2017:

  • The age limit for medical aspirants seeking admission under the 15% all India quota has been set for 25 years while the candidates belonging to reserved categories may appear in the test up to 30 years of age. Candidates can attempt for the NEET exam three times only.
