West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WB JEE - 2017) is an objective common engineering or medical entrance examination which is conducted for admission to Bachelor’s program in various engineering and medical colleges in West Bengal.

The examination enables candidates to seek admission in Medical, Dental, Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy and Architecture in Universities, Govt. Colleges and Self-Financed Institutes in the State. WB JEE exam is generally taken after a student successfully completes his/her 12th std. West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WB JEE - 2017) can only be taken if the student has completed the 12th std in the Science stream - which is Physics, Chemistry Maths and Biology. 

The WB JEE Medical and WB JEE has a difference although both have similar test names. For the WB JEE Medical, biology paper is given while for the WB JEE Engineering, mathematics paper is given. For West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WB JEE - 2017), negative marking is applicable with 30% of the total marks being deducted for every wrong answer.

WBJEE 2017 Important Dates

  • Online forms can be filled from January 5th, 2017.
  • The last date of online form fill-up including payment and downloading confirmation page is February 4th, 2017.
  • The window for correction will be open from February 6th, 2017 to February 8th, 2017.
  • Candidates can download their admit card on April 12th, 2017.
  • The WBJEE exam will be on April 23, 2017.
  • Paper 1 (Mathematics) will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. 
  • Paper 2 (Physics & Chemistry) will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • The result will be announced on June 5th, 2017.

WBJEE 2017 Eligibility

  • Age Limit:Candidates need to be atleast 17 years as on 31.12.2016 to be eligible to apply for the Engineering/Technology course (other than Marine Engineering), Pharmacy and Architecture Courses. Candidates need to be atleast 17 years as on 31.12.2016 and not more than 25 years as on 31.07.2016 to be eligible to apply for the Marine Engineering course.Candidates must be atleast 17 years as on 31.12.2016 to be eligible to apply for the Medical/Dental course.
  • Domicile Requirement: The Domicile requirement is an eligibility criterion for admission to different degree level Medical, Dental, Engineering/Technology, Pharmacy & Architecture courses in West Bengal.
  • Engineering and Technology Course: -
  • Jadavpur University: Candidates must pass 10+2 examination in regular class mode of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/ Board. Candidates should have had Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates should have minimum of 60% marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) and must pass in English with minimum of 30% (for all categories) in the qualifying exmaination.
  • Calcutta University: Candidates must pass 10+2 examination in regular class mode of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/ Board. Candidates should have had Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates should have minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) and must pass in English with minimum of 30% (for all categories) in the qualifying examination.
  • Department of Jute and Fibre Technology, Calcutta University: Candidates must pass 10+2 examination in regular class mode of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/ Board. Candidates should have had Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology as compulsory subjects. Candidates should have minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) and must pass in English with minimum 30% marks (for all categories) in the qualifying examination.
  • Other Universities: Candidates must pass 10+2 examination in regular class mode of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/ Board. Candidates should have had Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates should have minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) and must pass in Eniglish with minimum 30% marks (for all categories) in the qualifying examination.
  • Marine Engineering: Candidates must pass 10+2 examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/ Board. Candidates should score 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in each subject and score a minimum of 50% marks in either 10 or 10+2.
  • Architecture Course: -
  • Jadavpur University: Candidates must have had Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates should have score 60% marks in the subjects mentioned (45% for for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates). Candidates should have 60% in mathematics (45% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates) and English with minimum 30% marks (for all category candidates) in the qualifying examination. Candidates must qualify either in NATA or in Paper 2 of JEE Mains.
  • The Council of Architecture has specified that candidates should have scored minimum 50% marks to be eligible. Candidates who hav scored less then 50% marks should have passed an examination at the end of new (10+2) scheme of Senior School Certificate Examination or equivalent with Mathematics as a subject of Examination at the 10+2 level. Candidates must qualify either in NATA or in Paper 2 of JEE Mains.
  • Pharmacy Course: -
  • Jadavpur University: Candidates must pass 10+2 examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/ Board. Candidates should have had Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates should have minimum 60% marks in the above subjects (45% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates). Camdidates should have 60% in mathematics (45% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates) and English with minimum 30% (for all category candidates) in the qualifying examination.
  • Other Institutes: Candidates must pass Higher Secondary examination state board or any qualified board of examination which is recognized by the government of India with physics, chemistry, and biology as their compulsory subjects. Candidates should have scored minimum of 45% marks in the subjects mentioned (40% for SC/ST/PwD/OBC candidates) and English with minimum 30% marks (for all category candidates) in the qualifying examination.
  • Medical/Dental Courses: Medical Council of India has specified that candidates must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination recognized by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences in regular mode with pass marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English to be eligible. Candidates must have scored 50% marks in the subjects mentioned ( 40% for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates, 45% for for PWD candidates) and English English with minimum 30% marks (for all category candidates) in the qualifying examination.
  • Candidates should produce a medical fitness certificate during the counselling process.

WBJEE 2017 Application Process

  • Candidates can fill the application form from January 5th, 2017 to February 4th, 2017.
  • Candidates can access the application form on the official website.
  • Registration of applicant:
  • Candidates have to visit the official website and click on the apply option.
  • Candidates have to fill in their details and choose their preferred exam center, question paper medium and details about family background.
  • Candidates should upload images of their thumb impression, signature and photograph according to the specifications mentioned.
  • Candidates should check the information and then click on the Final submit option.
  • Candidates have to pay the exam fee (application fee is Rs. 500/- ) by clicking on the Pay Now option.
  • Note the transaction number and take a print out of the confirmation page.
  • Details regarding reservation can be availed from the Merit List generated after the examinations.

WBJEE 2017 Application Form Details

  • The WBJEE registration can be done online as well as offline.
  • The WBJEE application fee is Rs. 500/-
  • The WBJEE 2017 reservation can be claimed only by the candidates who possess a domicile of West Bengal.
  • The reservation details can be availed from the Merit List generated after the examinations.
  • The WBJEE application forms will be available from January 5th, 2017.
  • The last date for submitting online applications, payment and downloading confirmation page is February 2nd, 2017.
  • The window for correction will be open from February 6th, 2017 to February 8th, 2017.
  • Candidates can download their admit card on April 12th, 2017.

WBJEE 2017 Admit Card

  • The WBJEE admit card will be available on April 12th, 2017.
  • The admit card is a mandatory document for the WBJEE exam.
  • Candidates can download the admit card form the official website by entering their application number and password. The admit card must be downloaded and printed.
  • The admit card contains important information such as roll number, date of the exam and the examination center.
  • The WBJEE admit card must not be tampered with as it will make it invalid.
  • Students should carry a valid ID card along with the admit card.
  • Students can enter the examination hall 25 minutes before the exam begins. They are not allowed to enter the exam hall after the exam has started.
  • Students are advised to keep a few extra copies of the downloaded admit card.

WBJEE 2017 Exam Pattern

  • The WBJEE exam is a pen paper based exam.
  • The exam consists of multiple choice questions.
  • The subjects for the WBJEE exam are Biological Sciences, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • There will be 115, 40, 40 and 75 questions from Biological Sciences, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics respectively.
  • There are three types of question categories which are as below: -
  • Question Category 1: Only one option is correct. A correct option will yield 1 mark and an incorrect option will yield -1/4 (negative) marks. For any combination of more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -¼ (negative) marks.
  • Question Category 2: Only one option is correct. A correct option will yield 2 marks and an incorrect option will yield -1/2 (negative) marks. For any combination of more than one option, the said answers will be treated as incorrect and yield -½ (negative ½) marks.
  • Question Category 3: One or more options are correct. Marking all correct options only will yield 2 (two) marks. For any combination of answers containing one or more incorrect options, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and it will yield zero (0) marks. For partially correct answers the marks awarded will be 2 X (number of correct options marked) / (total number of actually correct options).

WBJEE 2017 Syllabus

  • The WBJEE syllabus consists of 10+2 level topics.
  • The main topics under each subject is as follows: -
  • Mathematics: Algebra, Logarithms, Complex Numbers, Quadratic equations, Permutations and combination, Principle of Mathematical Induction, etc.
  • Physics: Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Physical World, Measurements, Units and Dimensions, Work, Power, Energy, Gravitation, Bulk Properties of Matter, Viscosity, Heat and Thermal Physics, etc.
  • Chemistry: Atomic Structure, Atoms, Molecules and Chemical Arithmetic, The periodic table and chemical families, Chemical bonding and molecular structure, Physical Chemistry of Solutions, etc.
  • Biological Science: Science of Life, Chemical constituents of living cells, Genetics and Evolution, Molecular basis of inheritance, etc.

WBJEE 2017 Results

  • The WBJEE results will be announced on June 5th, 2017 on the official website.
  • Candidates can check the results on the official website by clicking on the result link and entering their roll number, birthdate and other details.
  • The result will be displayed once the candidate clicks the submit option.
  • Admissions will be given on the basis of merit.
  • The WBJEE cutoff (tentative) is as follows: 
  • For the Computer Science and Engineering branch the opening rank is 12 and the closing rank is 89747.
  • For the Electronics and Communication Engineering branch the opening rank is 40 and the closing rank is 89429.
  • For the Mechanical Engineering branch the opening rank is 83 and the closing rank is 89355.
  • For the Electrical Engineering branch the opening rank is 140 and the closing rank is 89748.
  • For the Chemical Engineering branch the opening rank is 217 and the closing rank is 88052.
  • For the Information Technology branch the opening rank is 279 and the closing rank is 89465.
  • For the Civil Engineering branch the opening rank is 499 and the closing rank is 89819.
  • For the Instrumentation Engineering branch the opening rank is 637 and the closing rank is 5633.
  • For the Production Engineering branch the opening rank is 816 and the closing rank is 86473.
  • For the Metallurgical Engineering branch the opening course is 877 and the closing rank is 1235.

WBJEE 2017 Counselling

  • The counselling process will begin from June 2017.
  • There will be three rounds of counselling in total.
  • Candidates need to register online and pay the fees online after remitting the fee. Candidates have to fill their choices for their branch and institute preference. The registration fee is Rs. 500/-
  • There will be different stages of counselling such as Online Registration, Choice Filling, Seat Allocation, Reporting and Document Verification and Confirmation and Admission.
  • The documents to be submitted during the counselling process are Class X Admit card, WBJEE 2017 Admit Card, Category Certificate, if Applicable, Higher Secondary/Class XII Mark Sheet, Print out of WBJEE 2017/JEE Main 2017 rank from official website, Receipt of Online Counselling Registration Fee (E-challan receipt), WBJEE 2017 Allotment Letter, Domicile Certificate, if Applicable and PWD Certificate, if Applicable.
  • The online registration process, declaration of Round 1 seat allotment and Round 1-Physical reporting, document verification initial fee payment, collection of allotment cards at RC centres and withdrawal of admission will be conducted in the month of June 2017.
  • The declaration of Round 2 seat allotment, Round 2 – Physical reporting, document verification, initial fee payment, collection of allotment cards at RC centers, withdrawal of admission, Declaration of Round 3 allotment, Round 3 – Physical reporting, document verification, initial fee payment, collection of allotment cards at RC centers, withdrawal of admission will be in the month of July 2017.
  • The last date for physical reporting and admission at final allotted institute by all the candidates who have been allocated a seat and E-Admission Procedure will be in the month of July 2017.

  • RCC Institute of Information Technology is one of the top five private engineering colleges in West Bengal. Previously it was a semi-government college but currently it has its own governing body.
  • The infrastructure of the college is decent. It has a large campus including two playgrounds, four large buildings along with many other small buildings, a pond with its beautiful arena.
  • Also, there is a canteen and a cafeteria inside the campus.
  • The new building has total 6 floors with lift facility.

  • JGEC is one of the most prestigious institutions of West Bengal. It comes under 2nd rank after Jadavpur University. Now like JU and BESU, JGEC is also an autonomous college.
  • The eligibility criteria is must have a rank under 4000 in WBJEE engineering entrance exam to get core branches like electrical, mechanical and civil.
  • Must have rank under 7000 in WBJEE to get noncore courses like ECE, cse, IT. I am talking about general category students. For other categories, the cutoff ranks are much higher and go up to 30000.
  • You have to take WBJEE entrance exam to get admission in this college.
  • Also, there is decentralized counseling through which vacant seats are filled in on spot counseling inside the college. The decentralised counselling dates will be notified by the colleges.
  • I had 3281 ranks in WBJEE and I got Electrical Engeering course in the 3rd round of counseling, that too in 2013. 
  • The admission process is very smooth.

TFW Scheme stands for ‘Tuition Fee Waiver’ Scheme. Students from economically weaker family (i.e. having total Annual Family Income from all sources less than Rs. 2.50 Lakhs), domiciled of West Bengal and Merit Listed in WBJEE-2017 can opt for seats under this Scheme. Their entire Tuition Fee shall be waived during the entire course duration. Other fees, like admission fee, Library Fee, caution deposits, etc shall have to be paid by students. 

The allotment shall be made strictly based on Merit and Preference only. 5 % Seats, on the supernumerary basis, in all AICTE approved Course in all Engineering, Technology and Pharmacy Colleges of the State are available under this TFW Scheme.

Private and self-financing Engineering, Technology and Pharmacy Colleges have been allowed to admit students up to maximum of 10% of approved seats (course wise) directly amongst students merit listed under the WBJEE (Engineering) or AIEEE (Engineering & Architecture) fulfilling eligibility criteria as per the general guidelines enumerated in the Information Brochure of those seats are known as Management Quota Seats. Filling up of seats under this Quota is beyond the purview of e-Counseling. The fee for such seats shall not be more than three times the fee prescribed for general students admitting in the academic year.
