Eligibility Criteria for WBJEE 2018

Eligibility Criteria with Respect to Age Limit:

Candidates applying for the WB JEE examination must be Indian Citizens.

  • The candidates who are looking for admission in Engineering / Technology (other than Marine Engineering), Pharmacy and Architecture Courses must be at least 17 years of age as on 31st December 2018 to be eligible.
  • Candidates looking for Admission in Marine Engineering courses must be at least 17 years of age as on 31st December 2018 and must not be above 25 (twenty-five) years of age as on 31st July 2018 to be eligible.
  • As per the eligibility norms and standards of the Director General of Shipping, Gov. of India Candidates must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognised Council/Board.

Eligibility for Engineering and Technology courses:

Candidates must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination in General Stream in the regular class mode of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognised Council/ Board as an eligibility.

  • Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects to be eligible.
  • Minimum of 60% marks in above subjects taken together (45% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates) having 60% marks in Mathematics (45% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates) as well as pass in English with a minimum of 30% (for all categories of candidates) in the said qualifying examination is required to be eligible.

Calcutta University:

The eligibility of Candidates is that they must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognised Council/ Board in regular class mode.

  • Individual pass marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects for students to be eligible.
  • Minimum of 60% marks in the above subjects taken together (55% for SC/ST/ PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates), as well as pass in English with a minimum of 30% marks (for all categories of candidates) in the, said qualifying examination is required for students to be eligible.

Dept. of Jute & Fibre Technology, Calcutta University:

Candidates must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognised Council/ Board in the regular class mode to be eligible. 

  • Individual pass marks in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology as compulsory subjects to be eligible.
  • Minimum of 45% marks in the above subjects taken together (40% for SC/ST/PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) as well as pass in English, with a minimum of 30% marks (for all categories of candidates) in the said qualifying examination would be required to be eligible.

Other educational institutes which offer engineering and technological courses:

Candidates must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognised Council/ Board in the regular class mode to be eligible. 

  • Individual pass marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
  • The minimum eligibility is 45% marks in the above subjects taken together (40% for SC/ST/ PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates), as well as pass in English with a minimum of 30% marks (for all categories of candidates) in the, said qualifying examination.

Marine Engineering:

  • In regular class mode 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics took together with individual pass marks in the said subjects is essential to be eligible.
  • Minimum eligibility is of 50% marks in English as subject in either in ‘10’ or in ‘10+2’ stand marks in English as subject in either in ‘10’ or in ‘10+2’ 

Architecture Course:

  • Individual pass mark in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects is required for a candidate to be eligible. 
  • Minimum eligibility is 60% marks in above subjects taken together (45% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates) having 60% marks in Mathematics (45% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates) as well as pass in English with a minimum of 30% (for all categories of candidates) in the said qualifying examination are eligible 
  • Candidate must qualify either in the NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi or in Paper 2 of JEE Mains conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education are eligible.

As per the norms and eligibility standards of the Council of Architecture (COA):

  • No candidate with less than 50% marks in aggregate shall be eligible to the architecture course unless he/she has passed an examination at the end of new (10+2) scheme of Senior School Certificate Examination or equivalent with Mathematics as a subject of Examination at the 10+2 level.
  • Candidate must also qualify either in the NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi or in Paper 2 of JEE Mains conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education which is a standard eligibility criterion.

Pharmacy Course:

  • Candidates must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination in General Stream in the regular class mode of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognised Council/ Board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects to be eligible.
  • Minimum eligibility is of 60% marks in above subjects taken together (45% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates) having 60% marks in Mathematics (45% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates) as well as pass in English with a minimum of 30% (for all categories of candidates) in the said qualifying examination to satisfy the eligibility criteria.

Other institutes: 

  • Candidates must pass Higher Secondary examination state board or any qualified board of examination which is recognised by the government of India with physics, chemistry, and biology as their compulsory subjects to meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Minimum of 45% marks in the above subjects taken together (40% for SC/ST/ PwD/OBC candidates), as well as pass in English with a minimum of 30% marks (for all categories of candidates) in the, said qualifying examination is necessary as per the eligibility criteria.

Medical/Dental Courses:

As per the norms and eligibility standards of the Medical Council of India:

  • Candidates must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or an equivalent examination recognised by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences in regular mode with pass marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English to be eligible.
  • The minimum eligibility is of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences took together (40% for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates, 45% for PWD candidates) and 30% marks in English (for all categories of candidates) in the said qualifying examination is required by the eligibility criteria.

Medical Fitness certificate must be produced during the time of counselling to ensure a validity that you are eligible for the medical practice.
