CAT 2018 Introduction:

  • About: CAT (Common Admission Test) is one of the most widely recognized Online competitive examination in India. The CAT score is used for admission to various management courses in 19 IIMs and 150 B-schools across India which include SPJIMR, FMS, MDI, NITIE etc.

  • Admissions through CAT: The CAT score helps the candidates to get admission in Top-Management colleges in India.
  • Conducting body: CAT is conducted by the Indian Institute of Management(IIMs) on a rotational basis every year.

  • Frequency: CAT 2018 conducted by any one of the IIMs is held once a year.
  • PG Management Programmes: Through CAT 2018, IIMs offer PGP, PGP-FABM, PGPEM, PGDM, EPGP PGPSM, PGPWE, PGDHRM, PGPEX, and PGPBM.

  • CAT Application form: Candidates have to register and fill the CAT 2018 Application form online to enrol themselves for CAT 2018. 

  • CAT Exam Eligibility: For the candidates to be eligible for CAT 2018, they have to satisfy all the eligibility criteria specified by the Conducting body.

  • CAT Exam Syllabus: There are 3 sections in CAT 2018 Syllabus- Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, Verbal & Reading Comprehension.

CAT 2018 Important Dates:

  • CAT 2018 Online Application: Candidates have to register and submit their CAT 2018 exam application form before 25th September 2018. CAT 2018 Registration starts on 9th August 2018.

CAT 2018 Eligibility Criteria:

  • Minimum Qualification: Candidates who have completed their Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% aggregate can apply for CAT 2018. The duration of the bachelor’s degree must be a minimum of 3 years.

  • Reserved seats: Candidates who belong to SC/ST/NC-OBC/PWD categories have a certain number of seats reserved and need 45% aggregate in Bachelor's Degree.

CAT 2018 Application Form:

  • Fee Payment: Application form fee of CAT 2018 should be paid by the candidates through Online mode (Credit Card/Debit Card/Net Banking) after the CAT 2018 Registration through the Official Website.

  • Documents Required: Documents required to complete the CAT 2018 registration process are - passport size photograph, an image of the applicant’s signature, signed NC-OBC/SC/ST, PWD/DA certificate etc.

CAT 2018 Syllabus:

  • Sections: In CAT 2018 Exam Syllabus, the Subjects are Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, Verbal & Reading Comprehension. Download the CAT 2018 Syllabus PDF here.

  • No repetition of Questions: There won't be any repetition of questions from previous test papers in CAT 2018.

  • Syllabus: The CAT 2018 Syllabus is divided into 3 sections which test the Logical Thinking, Verbal Ability and Mathematical Analysis. There is no General Awareness section and testing.

CAT 2018 Exam Pattern:

  • Marking Scheme: 3 marks will be awarded for Each correct answer and 1 mark will be deducted for an incorrect answer.

  • Mode of Exam:  The CAT 2018 examination will be conducted Online (Computer-based test).

  • Type of Questions: CAT 2018 will consist of 2 type of questions: MCQs(Multiple Choice Questions) as well as non-MCQs.

  • Preparation: The CAT 2018 Preparation should be started as early as possible. The more you read, the more you will score.

CAT 2018 Admit Card:

  • Admit Card Date: Candidates can download the CAT 2018 Admit Card from the official website from 25th October 2018. The Admit Card issued by the issuing body has to be carried to the examination centre.
  • Contents: It is mandatory to carry the CAT 2018 Admit card to the Exam centre along with a photo identity card. CAT 2018 Admit card include the following details: the candidate’s name, date of birth, CAT registration Id, exam centre, exam date and time.

CAT 2018 Results: 

  • Details required: CAT 2018 Counselling will be based on the CAT 2018 results. To access CAT 2018 result, use the roll number and password. 

  • Result Date: The result announced will be in a scorecard form. Candidates can check the CAT 2018 results on 15th January 2019. CAT 2018 result will have the sectional and overall score.

CAT 2018 Counselling:

  • Documents to be Submitted: Candidates have to submit the original documents during the CAT 2018 Counselling.
  • Counselling Date: The counselling dates allocated for each candidate depends on their score in CAT 2018 exam. The CAT 2018 counselling process starts from 22nd January 2019.

CAT Guidelines

  • ID Proof: Admit Card and ID proof are mandatory for every candidate. Without ID card candidate are not allowed inside the examination hall.

CAT Guidelines

  • Report Early: The candidate must reach the exam centre at least 30 minutes before the commencement of the exam as the security checks, identity verification, and check-in may take a considerable time.

CATGuidelines

  • Latecomers Not Allowed: If a candidate reaches the exam centre after the commencement of the exam then the candidate will not be allowed to enter the examination hall.

CAT Guidelines

  • No Talking Inside the Examination Hall: The candidate is not allowed to talk to anybody during the examination. If the candidate is found doing the same, it will lead to cancellation of candidature or the candidate will be sent outside the examination hall without any warning.

CAT Guidelines

  • Restricted Items: Candidates shouldn't carry any Electronic Watches with a calculator, material printed or written, paper bits, mobile phone, pager or any other device, Calculators, Docu Pen, Slide Rules, Log Tables except the Admit Card, identity proof or any document inside the examination hall.

CAT 2018 Important Dates Summary:

  • Application Date: The Application for the CAT2018 exam can be filled starting from 9th August 2018 at 10.A.M until 25th September 2018 at 5.00 P.M.

  • Admit Card: Admit Card will be available from 25th October 2018.

  • ExaminationThe Official Date for the Common Admission Test is 25th November 2018 to 25th November 2018.
  • Results: The results  will be published on 15th January 2019. The Counselling process starts from 22nd January 2019.

CAT 2018 Eligibility

CAT 2018 Eligibility Summary:

  • Minimum Qualification: The applicant should have completed a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized institution with a minimum of 50% marks or an equivalent CGPA to be eligible. The SC/ST and PWD/DA category applicants have to have minimum 45% marks or an equivalent CGPA.

  • Percentage conversion: The score calculated determines the applicant's eligibility for CAT 2018. The percentage obtained in Bachelor's degree is calculated on the basis of conversion schemes. In the case of CGPA, the conversion would depend on the equivalent certificate awarded by the concerned University.

  • Age and Number of Attempts: There are no criteria based on Age and Number of attempts for aspirants to be eligible.

  • Final year candidates: Students who are in their final year are also eligible.

  • Reserved Seats: The CAT reservation for SC, ST, OBC and Physically challenged applicants is 15%, 7.5%, 27% and 3% respectively.

  • Registration: Students have to first register themselves and then Log in to fill the Application form and pay the fee.

  • Application Dates: Candidates can fill the application starting from 9th August 2018. Deadline to complete the application process is 25th September 2018.

CAT 2018 Application Form Details Summary:

  • Personal Details: In the CAT 2018 Application form, the candidates are required to fill in their: Father’s/Husband’s/Guardian’s Name and Gender, Category (under which they will be applying), Select the Person with disability/differently abled (If they fall into this category), Enter the communication address.

  • Academic Details: In CAT 2018 CAT Application form, the candidates are required to enter their education details. So fill in the various sections applicable. CAT 2018 Admit Card

CAT 2018 Admit Card Summary:

  • Issue date: Admit card will be available on the official website and can be downloaded starting from 25th October 2018. Candidates have to enter their Enrolment ID and Password to download the admit card and take a printout. 
  • Mandatory: Admit card is a mandatory document to appear for the examination.

  • Issued to: The admit card will be issued to the candidates who have met the eligibility criteria and completed their CAT 2018 application process successfully.

  • Contents:  Admit card will have the details on it like Name of the candidate, Exam date, Time (Forenoon or Afternoon Session), Exam Centre address, User ID No./Registration Number and PWD/DA status.

CAT 2018 Exam Pattern Summary:

  • Online Mode: The CAT 2018 examination will be CBT (computer-based test).

  • Duration: The duration of the   exam will be 3 hours ie., 180 minutes. For answering questions in each section candidates will get 60 minutes.

  • Marks: 3 marks will be awarded for every correct answer and for every wrong answer 1 mark will be deducted.

  • Subjects: Subjects covered in CAT 2018 exam will be logical reasoning & data interpretation, Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, and Quantitative Ability.

CAT 2018 Syllabus Summary:

  • Sections: There are four sections in CAT 2018: Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal Ability, Logical & Analytical Reasoning and Data Interpretation.

  • Quantitative Ability Syllabus: Quantitative ability will contain topics like geometry, number system, interest, quadratic & linear equations, probability, trigonometry, time & work, percentages, profit & loss, algebra, LCM & HCF, averages, permutation, ratio & proportions and complex numbers, etc.
  • Logical reasoning syllabus: Logical reasoning will have topics like  Direction Sense, clocks & calendars, puzzles, binary logic, seating arrangement, coding-decoding, blood relations, logical sequence, data structure, assumption, premise, conclusion, linear and matrix arrangement, etc.

  • Data interpretation Syllabus: Data Interpretation will have topics like graphs (line, area), Interpretation and analysis of data based on text, Charts (Column, bar, pie), tables, paragraph, Venn diagram, etc.
  • Verbal ability syllabus: Verbal ability will have topics like verbal reasoning, antonyms and synonyms, sentence correction, fill in the blanks, critical reasoning, syllogisms, analogies, idioms, etc.

CAT 2018 Results

CAT 2018 Results Summary:

  • Process:  The CAT 2018 results with percentile will also be sent to candidate's Mobile number. Candidates have to enter their CAT 2018 ID and Password in official website to check and download the results.

  • Date: The Results will be announced on 15th January 2019 on the Official website.

  • Cut-off: Once the results are announced, the CAT 2018 cut-off imprints will be distributed.

CAT 2018 Counselling

CAT 2018 Counselling Summary:

  • Counselling Date: After the CAT 2018 results are out, the shortlisted candidates will have to appear in the Counselling held in one of the IIMs. For the current academic session, the process is scheduled to begin from 22nd January 2019. 

  • Required documents: 10th and 12th Marks cards, 4 Photographs, Caste certificate, Admit card etc.

  • Shortlisting the candidates: GD/PI round, along with CAT 2018 Score candidate’s academic work and relevant work experience will be also taken into account for shortlisting of candidates. 

    • Written Ability Test: In recent years, IIMs prefer Written Ability Test over Group Discussion.

    • Personal Interview: An important part of the selection procedure is Personal Interview. Group Discussion and/or Written Ability Test round and Personal Interview are the different rounds for selection.
