About CLAT 2018 Exam:

  • Introduction: One of the most important entrance examinations to pursue a career in law is the Common Law Admission Test. It is also known as CLAT 2018 nationwide by law aspirants.

  • Courses: CLAT 2018 is conducted to grant admission to LLB and LLM courses offered at various institutes/ universities across India.

  • Conducted by: CLAT 2018 is conducted by National Law Universities (NLUs) in India. There is a total of 18 NLUs in the country.

  • Authority: The responsibility of carrying out CLAT 2018 is given to a particular NLU Institution every year.

  • Seats and Exam Pattern: There are around 1100 seats in NLUs all over the country. The CLAT 2018 examination is conducted every year by 18 Law Universities in India in which a candidate’s skills are tested based on multiple choice questions asked from different subjects such as General Knowledge, Mathematics, English, Legal, and logical reasoning.

CLAT 2018 Schedule:

  • Application form: Candidate can fill the application form on CLAT Exam from 1st January 2018. 

  • Exam date: The CLAT 2018 examination will be conducted on 14th May 2018.

CLAT 2018 Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Minimum marks: Those candidates who have cleared Class XII with a minimum of 45% marks are allowed to appear for the CLAT 2018 examination.

  • Relaxation: However, for the SC/ST candidates, there is five percent relaxation in the minimum marks required for the eligibility criteria of the CLAT 2018 exam. 

  • Age limit: The maximum age limit for CLAT 2018 exam is 20 years for the general, NRI and NRI sponsored category students. But, the maximum age limit is 22 years in CLAT 2018 exam for the candidates of SC/ST/ OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP) category candidates.

  • Subjects: English, Logical Reasoning, General Knowledge, Elementary Mathematics, Legal Aptitude.

  • Topics: English - Vocabulary, proficiency, usage errors. Mathematics - Arithmetic, commercial maths, modern maths. GK - Current affairs. Legal Aptitude, Logical reasoning - Reasoning test, logical test.

CLAT 2018 Exam Pattern:

  • Maximum marks: The exam pattern followed for CLAT 2018 has maximum marks of 200 marks.

  • Duration: The candidates will be having a total timing of 2 hours to complete CLAT 2018 examination.

  • Mode: CLAT 2018 examination will be conducted in online mode (computer-based).

CLAT 2018 Application Form Details:

  • Application availability: The application form for CLAT 2018 available on the official website from 1st January 2018 to 31st March 2018.

  • Application fee: The candidates have to pay the application form fees, the application fee is Rs 4000 (Rs. 3500 for ST/SC). The candidate can get more details about the application form and payment ways by clicking on the application form. 


CLAT 2018 Admit Card Details:

  • Authorization: Any discrepancies in the Admit Card should be brought to the examination authorities immediately.


CLAT 2018 Results: 

  • Result date: The result of CLAT 2018 exam will be declared on 29th May 2018.
  • Credentials: Candidates need to enter there Login ID and password to check CLAT 2018 results.

CLAT 2018 Counselling:

  • Counselling registration: After the CLAT 2018 result, the first list of the students based on the merit is published and then the candidates will have to pay the counselling fees and register themselves for the counselling process.

  • Selection of colleges: The candidates can refer the cut-off list college wise which is available on the official website in order to apply for the required college.

  • Admission procedure: The second list of provisionally selected candidates are then published on the website and the candidates also have to pay the counselling fee and register themselves for admission.Similarly, there will be two more selected students list put up on the official website, after which the students have to complete the admission procedure at the respective NLU's where they are allocated seats.

Guidelines for CLAT Examination:

  • The candidate is requested to report at the exam venue as per the reporting time mentioned on the admit card.

  • Candidates are not allowed to enter in the examination hall after the commencement of examination.

  • Scratch papers are provided to all candidate for rough work at the examination hall. Rough work cannot be done any other paper sheet, as nothing will be allowed inside the testing room. Upon completion of the test, candidates will have to hand back all the scratch paper to the administrator.

  • The candidate is not allowed to carry any personal belongings to the exam centre including but not limited to wrist-watch, cell phones, calculators, etc., In case of candidate carry the personal item, it will have to be kept outside the examination hall at your own risk. The examination centre will not responsible for any loss or damage of such items.

  • If the candidate completes the exam before the scheduled end time, he/she will not be allowed to leave the exam hall.

  • The candidate is allowed to leave the exam only after the scheduled three hours of the exam are over.

  • Candidates should ensure that the signatures appended and photographs uploaded by them in their Application Form and Admit Card should be identical and there should be no variation of any kind

CLAT 2018 Eligibility Criteria for UG Law Courses

 Candidates would be eligible to apply for CLAT 2018 if they have completed their 10+2 or equivalent examination with a minimum of:

  • Minimum 45% marks in case of candidates belonging to General/ OBC/ Specially-abled person categories.

  • Minimum 40% marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category.


CLAT 2018 Eligibility Criteria for LLM Course

 Candidates would be eligible to apply for LLM course admissions if they possess CLAT LLB or equivalent degree and have secured: 

  • Minimum of 55% marks in case of General/OBC/Specially-abled person categories

  • Minimum of 50% marks in case of SC/ST category.


Age Limit and Nationality

  • General Category-22years, SC/ST- not less than 22years.

  • Nationality: Indian candidates and NRI's are allowed.

How to apply: 

  • Visit the official website for CLAT 2018 examination.

  • Fill out the Application form with the required details.

Documents Required During Application Process:

  • SC/ST Certificates (if applicable), Domicile Certificates (if required), Birth Certificate, Passport size photographs, Uploaded signature. 

Register for CLAT 2018 by filling all the basic details and upload the mentioned document:

  • Photograph of the candidate with clear lenses 30 mm x 45 mm and size should not more than 100 KB, JPG/JPEG format.

  • Signature of the candidate should not be maximum 80 KB in JPG/JPEG format. 

Payment Method: 

  • Online, via Credit/Debit or Net Banking.

Downloading the Application Form:

  • Completely filled application form with the acknowledged receipt can be downloaded in PDF format.

  • The printout of the acknowledgement form can be kept for future reference.

CLAT 2018 Application Form Details

  • The only way to apply for CLAT 2018 examination is through an online registration process.

  • There is no offline mode available to apply for the examination.

  • The form will be available from 1st January 2018 till 31st March 2018.

  • Following scanned version of documents will be available to the candidates before applying for the form online.

  • Passport size photograph with the specified format is compulsory.

  • Valid Signatures should be of the specified size for uploading.

  • SC/ST certificate (if applicable) then it is mandatory while registration.

  • Duration of CLAT 2018 Exam will be for 2 hours.

  • Each right answer carries 1 mark whereas every wrong answer carries a negative marking of 0.25 (both PG&UG).

  • The number of questions for PG courses and Marks allotted: 150 questions, 150 Marks.

  • The number of questions for UG courses and Marks allotted: 200 question, 200 Marks.

  • Examination pattern for undergraduate programs is predefined by the examining authority.

UG courses CLAT 2018 will be having 5 sections:

  • English including comprehension- 40 marks

  • General knowledge & current affairs- 50 marks

  • Elementary mathematics (numerical ability)- 20 marks

  • Legal aptitude- 50 marks

  • Logical reasoning- 40 marks

PG courses CLAT 2018 will be having 3 sections:

  • Constitutional Law- 50 marks

  • Jurisprudence- 50 marks

  • Other subjects such as contract, torts, criminal law, international law, IPR etc- 50 marks

 If two or more candidates score equal marks in CLAT 2018, then the procedure will be adopted to prepare the list of shortlisted candidates: 

  • Higher marks in the section of legal aptitude in CLAT 2018

  • Higher age

  • Computerised draw of lots

Cut Off for CLAT 2018

  • Category wise cutoff will be announced by the CLAT board which depends on the 2018 results.

  • The slot will be allocated for counseling which depends on the CLAT 2018 results.

  • Complete merit list according to the marks secured by the candidate will be published on the CLAT website.

  • The state-specific and all India merit lists will be prepared for various categories like Open/SC/ST/OBC/Women and PWD etc.

  • Step 1: The university-wise first indicative list based on merit-cum-preference will be published on the CLAT 2018 official website.

  • Step 2: Payment of Counselling fee.

To be eligible to appear for the CLAT examination 2017, candidates from general category must not be older than 20 years as on July 1st, 2017. Candidates from SC and ST category should not be less than 22 years as, on July 1st, 2017 or they aren't eligible. There is no upper age limit specified and candidates above the specified age limit are eligible to apply for the CLAT exam.

Note: 

Only Indian candidates are eligible to apply for the examination. Students with a compartment in 12th also are eligible to apply for CLAT 2017.

Even NRI's are eligible to appear for the exams.

Only candidates who have appeared and passed the in the qualifying exam are eligible to write the CLAT. The candidates who have written the supplementary are also eligible to appear for CLAT provided they produce proof of having cleared the supplementary.
