Introduction to CA-CPT 2017: 

  • About:

    • The Common Proficiency Test, commonly known as CPT or CA-CPT is the entry-level examination for Chartered Accountancy Certification in India. 

    • Conducting Board: The exam is conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in compliance with the Chartered Accountants Regulations 1988.

    • Courses Offered: Chartered Accountant- Common Proficiency Test (CA-CPT) is conducted by ICAI for candidates who wish to pursue a career in Chartered Accountancy in India. 

    • Frequency: The CA-CPT examination is conducted twice a year in the months of June and December.

  • Eligibility: Students can apply for the exam after completing 10th standard but are eligible to appear for the exam only once they have cleared/completed 12th standard or 2nd-year of pre-university course.

  • Exemption: With effect from 3rd August 2012, candidates who are commerce graduates, postgraduates or have an equivalent qualification aspiring for a career in Chartered Accountancy are exempted from writing the CA-CPT examination. 

  • Results & Score Validity: The CA-CPT 2017 results will be tentatively published within 3-4 weeks after the exam and the candidate's score will be considered valid for a period of 3 years.

Important Dates for CA-CPT 2017: 

  • Exam: ICAI is scheduled to conduct the ICAI Common Proficiency Test (CPT) December Exam 2017 on 17th December 2017 in two sessions viz. 10:30 am to 12:30 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm.
  • Result: The CA-CPT 2017 December examination will be announced on 18th January 2018.

CA-CPT 2017 Eligibility Criteria:

The eligibility criteria laid down by the ICAI for CA-CPT 2017 is as mentioned below:

  • Qualification: The aspirants must have passed 10+2 level (Senior Secondary) qualifying examination from a national or state recognized Board of Secondary Education in India.

  • Registration: The aspirants are required to register/switch over to Common Proficiency Course with Board of Studies of ICAI before October 2, 2017. 

  • Re-validation: The aspirants must get his/her registration to Common Proficiency Course re-validated in case it has been three years since their CPT registration. Candidates must note that CPT course registration is valid only for three years.


CA-CPT 2017 Syllabus:

  • Subject-wise Syllabus: Candidates preparing for CA-CPT 2017 should refer to the detailed syllabus for each subject as this gives them a better understanding of the type and content of questions to expect in the exam. 

  • Topics: The 200 questions to be asked in CA-CPT 2017 will be based on topics like Fundamental of Accounting, General Economics, Mercantile Laws, and Quantitative Aptitude that are divided into separate sections.

CA-CPT 2017 Exam Pattern Overview:

  • Mode: CPT 2017 examination is an Offline exam (Pen and Paper Based Examination) which requires the physical presence of the student.

  • Language: CPT 2017 Examination can be taken up in either English or Hindi, as preferred by the student. 

  • There will be one paper consisting of 200 objective type questions divided into 2 sessions. The session break up is as follows:
    • Session 1: Accounting and Mercantile.

    • Session 2: Economics and Quantitative Aptitude.


CA-CPT 2017 Application Form:

  • Application Mode: The application form is only available online. To get detailed information on how to register and fill the form click here, Application Process

  • Format: The CA-CPT December 2017 application form will be available in a PDF format which needs to be printed by the candidates on A4 size sheets.


CA-CPT 2017 Admit Card:

  • Availability: The applicants must download the CA-CPT 2017 Admit card from the official website by entering their login details. The CPT Admit card for December 2017 examination will be available for download from 20th November 2017. 

  • Online copy: No hard copy of the admit card will be sent to the candidates, the admit card will only be available online which needs to be printed.

  • Requirement: All the candidates will have to carry the printed copy of the admit card for admission to the examination hall during CA-CPT 2017.


CA-CPT 2017 Results: 

  • Announcement: The results will be announced by the ICAI on 18th January 2018 and candidates can check their qualifying status for Chartered Accountancy Common Proficiency Test online on the official website.

  • Format: It will be published in a PDF format, which will have roll numbers and names of the qualified candidates. The published result also mentions the qualifying status of candidates, individual subject marks and minimum qualifying marks for CA-CPT 2017.

  • Certification: In addition, candidates who obtain a minimum of 70% marks in the CA-CPT 2017 exam, will receive a “Pass with Distinction” certificate from the ICAI. 


CA-CPT 2017 Cutoff: 

  • Minimum marks: Candidates have to score the minimum marks set by the ICAI to get shortlisted for Common Proficiency Course (CPC).

  • Minimum marks in both sections: The candidates must have scored a minimum of 50% average in both the sections together and a minimum of 30% marks in each section.


CA-CPT 2017 Question Papers: 

  • Comprehensive Material: The ICAI provides a comprehensive reading material including a large question bank.

  • Model test papers: Candidates are advised to take benefit of the Model Test Papers and question banks.

  • Mock exam: It is essential for candidates to take up the mock exam and go through previous year question papers to get an idea of the type of questions asked in the exam. 


Reservation for CPC courses:

  • No reservation: There is no Reservation scheme for candidates irrespective of the category they belong to (General/OBC/SC/ST). Admissions will be granted on pure merit basis.

June 2016 CA-CPT exam trends:

  • Demographic information: The above graph shows the demographic distribution of the candidates who have appeared for the exam in June 2016.

  • Pass %: The pass percentage for CA-CPT June 2016 was 40.5%.


December 2016 CA-CPT exam trends: 

  • Demographic information: The above graph shows the demographic distribution of the candidates who have appeared for the exam in December 2016 and qualified in the same.

  • Pass %: The pass percentage for CA-CPT December 2016 was 46%.


CA-CPT 2017 Examination Guidelines: 

  • Time of the registration: The candidate has to reach the allotted examination center 30 minutes before the start of the examination to complete the registration formalities well before the time.
  • Stationary products: Ensure carrying 2 black ball pens, 3-4 HB pencils and other requirements for examination. The candidate has to mark the responses with an HB pencil and write details with a black ball pen.

  • Carefully fill the circles in OMR sheet: Aspirants need to check twice after filling the circles in the OMR sheet and other details in the examination.

  • Use rough page for calculations: All calculations should only be done in the rough pages of the question paper. Avoid calculations at any other place.

  • Response & marks: CPT exam is more about confidence and spontaneous decisions. Attempt only those questions in which you are confident. Your every wrong attempt will reduce your marks.

  • Test conducted as per schedule: No candidate will be allowed to leave his/her seat or the examination hall until the test concludes as per schedule.

  • Scribble pads: Scribble pads will be provided to the candidates in the examination hall by the invigilators. The same should be used for all rough work.

  • Minimum attempting Qns: It's better for the candidate to attempt 160 questions with full confidence than attempting 200 questions with 40 wrong attempts.

  • Avoid carrying expensive products: Except for the CPT 2017 Admit Card and identity proof, candidates are not allowed to carry any textual material, Electronic Watches, printed or bits of papers, mobile phone, pager or any other device inside the Examination Room/Hall.

  • Last Date to Register with ICAI for CPC course is 25th October 2017.

  • Correction of Submitted Application Form Discrepancies (without fee) is from the 1st week of November (only for 1 week).

  • Correction of Submitted Application Form Discrepancies (with fee) is from the 4th week of November 2017 to 9th December 2017.

  • CA CPT Admit Card is available for download from 20th November 2017

  • CA CPT Examination Date is 17th December 2017.

 
 

CPT 2017 Eligibility

CPT Eligibility Summary 2017:

  • Registration: Candidates who want to appear for CPT 2017 examination must register before 4th October 2017, and apply before the registration ends which is on 25th October 2017.

  • Qualification: Applicants who have passed the 10+2 examination or its equivalent qualifying examination can appear for CPT 2017 and register for the professional course.

  • Age limit: There is no age limit to apply for CA CPT.

  • Applying criteria: The candidates should have passed Xth and XIIth standard qualifying examination or any equivalent examination conducted by a recognized/applicable board.

  • Conditions: If candidates have an undergraduate degree in the Commerce stream and have secured  55% marks, such applicants are not required to take up CA CPT 2017 examination, they will be eligible to directly apply to IPCC.If candidates have an undergraduate degree in any other relevant stream, then these candidates must have an average of over 60%. 

  • Exemption: Candidates holding UG/PG degree from Open University are also exempted from appearing in the entry level test.

  • Visit: Candidates must visit the official website of ICAI and register as a new user to apply for CA CPT.

  • Register: Click on Register button once the registration process is complete.

  • Filling up details: After the registration, click on the Apply Now button and fill up the education details.

  • The candidates must fill the application form in a correct and accurate manner.

Application Fee for CPT 2017:

  • If the applicant has selected examination center in India then the application fee is INR 1000/-.

  • If the applicant has selected test center in Kathmandu (i.e. Nepal) then the application fee is INR 1700/-.

  • If the applicant has selected test center in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Muscat, Doha then the application fee is $ 300/-.

  • Necessary documents: Candidates must have all the necessary documents before applying the CPT2017 examination.

  • Visit: Candidates need to go to the ICAI website of CPT for online registration.

  • Filling up: The step is to fill in the following details which include -Full name of the applicant, DOB, sex, mother’s and father’s name, address, category (general or reserved), nationality, the medium of study, educational qualification, recent passport size photo etc.

  • Hard copy: Last and the foremost step is to take the hard copy of the registration form along with the attached documents then send it to the ICAI.

CPT 2017 Admit Card

  • CA CPT 2017 Admit Card will be issued online to the registered candidate.

  • Admit Card will be available to candidates three weeks prior to the examination.

  • Candidates can obtain their CA CPT 2017 Admit Card by logging in through their registered ID and password.

  • Name of the candidate

  • Roll number

  • Photograph

  • Medium of examination 

  • Signature

  • Exam venue 

Instruction for candidates:

  • Candidates need to carry a hard copy (if applied via post or in person) or printed copy of CA CPT 2017 Admit card to the examination venue.

  • Candidates must only use BLACK BALLPOINT pens to write the exam. 

  • In case a candidate finds any mistakes in their admit card then he/she needs to contact ICAI helpdesk immediately.

  • Mode: CPT 2017 is an objective type examination.

  • The examination will be directed in PPB (Pencil Paper mode).

  • Question format: CPT 2017 exam has multiple choice questions.

  • Medium: The medium of question paper will be in Hindi or English.

  • Sections: There are four sections in the examination with 200 aggregate marks

  • Negative marking: There is negative marking for incorrect answers.

  • A candidate has score overall average 50% and 30% in each subject.

There are two sessions for CPT 2017:

1st Session:

  • Fundamentals of Accounting (60 marks)

  • Mercantile Laws (40 marks)

2nd Session:

  • General Economics (50 marks)

  • Sessions: There are two sessions for CPT 2017 i.e., Session 1 and Session 2.

  • Session 1: For Session 1, there are two sections, Section A and Section B.

  • Sections: There are 4 sections for 2 sessions which areFundamentals of Accounting, Mercantile Laws, General Economics, Quantitative Aptitude.

CPT 2017 Results

CPT 2017 Results Summary:

  • Keep safe: Candidates are advised to keep their admit card safe until the results are published and other procedures are completed.

  • Results check: Candidates can check their CPT results on the official website by entering his/her CPT roll number or registration number or receive through SMS.

  • Qualifying status:ICAI will release the results onto the official site and candidates will be intimated about their qualifying status through registered email ID and phone number.

  • Download options: Candidates can download their marks card, rank card, and certificate through the ICAI registered accounts.

  • Rank card: Applicants who clear the CPT examination securing the first ten ranks will be awarded a Rank Card within four weeks after the CPT examination.

CPT 2017 Counselling

Summary of CA CPT 2017 Counselling:

  • Online Registration: Visit the official website and go to the section Counselling. Then register and get a unique User ID and Password on your registered mobile phone for the next step.

  • Choice Filling: Now choose the courses as per your choice and list them.

  • Locking: After the final edit lock all your choices.

  • Counseling Result Declaration: All the candidates will receive their result of their allotted course through their registered SMS and Email after counselling ends.

  • Reporting to the College: After the counselling ends, all the candidates need to visit the college and need to pay the fee to take admissions.

Eligibility criteria was based on the marks of class 12th for the graduation course. I appeared for the entrance exam for CA course that is common proficiency test (CPT). An average college in DU demand about 92% to 93% in class 12th for admissions.

Eligibility Criteria and Admission Process:

The eligibility criteria were to meeting the cutoff percentage. The admission process was the same as other colleges. I took CPT examination and scored with 127 marks for it. The cutoff ranged from 95-96 percentile. 75 percentage for my course in JMC.

Eligibility Criteria and Admission Process:
  • Eligibility criteria for studying B.com (hons) is 10+2 commerce. Rather students who don't want to study science anymore for there bachelors degree can change to commerce.
  • Admission procedure is of two types - offline and online. Most of the students choose the online mode for easy process.
  • I decided to appear for the CPT exam.
  • The typical cutoffs are 50% for general students and 45% for ST/SC/OBC students.

Eligibility Criteria and Admission Process:
  • The entrance exam for CA is CPT which I have cleared it in Dec 2013 with 162 /200 and later IPCC which is 9 moths after CPT which was cleared by me in Nov 2014 and now preparing for CA final.
  • The typical cutoff marks are subjects wise cutoff i.e. 40% and Groupwise cutoff i.e. overall 50%.
