Eligibility Criteria for IGNOU OPENMAT:

Candidates need to fulfill the following criteria before applying IGNOU OPENMAT:

  • Completed minimum of a three-year graduate degree from any recognized university.
  • The minimum marks required at the graduation level is 50 per cent.
  • A professional degree in law/ company secretaryship/ cost accountancy/ medicine/ engineering with at least per net marks also makes a candidate eligible for OPENMAT.
  • For candidates belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward classes, widow, Kashmiri migrants and physically handicapped categories; the minimum marks at graduation level is 45 per cent.
  • Candidates must be an Indian citizen.

Foreign nationals can also apply for OPENMAT: Foreign students residing in India and having a valid student visa for the minimum duration of the program are eligible to seek admission in IGNOU programs. Such students are required to remit the fee at par with foreign students (Details of fee structure may be obtained from International Division). Admission of foreign students residing in India will be processed by the International Division of the University after ensuring their antecedents from the Ministry of External Affairs/Ministry of Human Resource Development.

  • Graduation in any discipline with 50% marks for general category/ 45% for reserved category as per Government of India rules, with 3 years’ managerial/ supervisory/ professional experience. OR
  • Professional Degree with 50% marks in: Engineering/ Medicine/ Chartered Accountancy (ICAI)/ Cost and Works Accountancy (ICWA)/ Company Secretary (ICSI)/ Law.
  • Bachelor Degree in any discipline under at least (10+2+3) pattern or equivalent.

When does the learner become eligible for obtaining the final degree?

  • The candidate who completes assignments, theory papers, practical, project and viva becomes eligible for the award of a degree by the University. However, the Degree is conferred at the convocation of the University but until the final degree is awarded the “provisional certificate” is issued to the learner. The student is provided Grade Card and Provisional Certificate of the completion of all the required courses and after the minimum duration of the programme.
