Application Procedure for IIT JAM 2018

  • Students can fill and submit the IIT JAM 2018 through online mode.
  • The applicants are advised to go through eligibility criteria before they start application procedure.

The steps for applying for IIT JAM 2018 are mentioned below in detail:

Step 1Visit the official website of JAM Online Application Processing.

Step 2: The candidates have to register themselve before applying for the IIT JAM application process.

  • Candidates should have to fill in their Email ID and the Password.
  • Enter the Captcha and click on to Submit button.
  • The candidate will be directed to the online application form.

Step 3: Eligible candidates can fill the online application for  IIT JAM by providing your name, email address, valid mobile number and create a password.

  • The candidate must begin by filling personal details such as name, gender etc.
  • The candidate must fill the mandatory fields carefully and accurately.
  • The names and date of birth must be same as in the 12th marks sheet.
  • The candidate has to choose the campus which he/she desires to take admission.
  • The candidates must fill in their preference of admission details.

Step 4: Previous educational details:

  • The candidates must fill in the percentage obtained.
  • The candidates must give accurate information about their schooling and college.
  • The candidate must hold a valid marks sheet provided by the Board.


Step 5:  Upload a scanned copy of your photograph, signature, and SC/ ST/ PWD certificate (if applicable), and submit the application form.

  • Review your IIT JAM 2018 application for one final time and submit.
  • Candidate should pay the IIT JAM 2018 application fee and submit.

Application Fee for IIT JAM 2018 

  • Candidates have to make the fee payment through online mode only.
  • The fee payment will be made through debit/credit card or net banking.

The detailed application fee is given below:

  • General and OBC candidates (Male) for One Test Paper INR 1500/- and for Two Test Paper INR 2100/-
  • Female (All Categories, SC, ST, PwD for One Test Paper INR 750/- and for Two Test Paper INR 1050/-

Sir, I have 2450 rank in IIT JAM Physics 2017. So in which institutions can I get admission other than IIT, IISC, IISER?

To get an admission to other prestigious institutes than the IIT's, you must make sure your marks scored is enough for the cut off at the respective institute.

Your rank just serves as an opportunity of priority to these institutes.

Your personal capabilities and performance during the interview section and the marks scored in respect to the cut-offs are the main factors that affect your admissions to these institutes.

To know your possibilities, go on to the official website of the institute you wish to get admitted to where you will find the cut-off marks for IIT JAM.

A candidate can apply for either one or two out of the seven JAM test papers subject to the restriction imposed by the Test Schedule given in the Information Brochure or JAM 2017 website.

The choice of the appropriate test paper(s) is the responsibility of the candidate.

A candidate is required to fill his/her primary as well as secondary choices because,

  • Generally, you will be allotted a center in the examination city of your first choice.
  • Only in cases, where it becomes difficult to accommodate you in the examination city of your first choice, your other two choices will be considered.

If you have clicked on the 'Save' button during the application process, the data you entered up to that point of time has been stored online.

Simply login back to the JAPS website and continue the application process.

If the data is not saved, you have to start the process afresh.

  • Online payment from your net banking/debit card/credit card through the payment gateway.

You are asking only the SC/ST/ PwD candidates to upload the category certificate. What about the OBC candidates? Do I have to upload my OBC-NCL certificate too?

No, you don't need to upload your OBC-NCL certificate at the time of applying for IIT JAM 2017 examination.

Category certificate is required at this stage only to claim the concessional rate for the application fee.

My net banking account/debit card/credit card has been debited (money is taken out) more than once. How do I get the money back?

This can happen if your bank account/debit card/credit card was used more than once or you pressed refresh or back/forward button of your internet browser.

Any unaccounted or excess money that was received on behalf of JAM 2015 from this account will automatically be returned to the same bank account.

Similarly, any unaccounted or excess money received from debit card/credit card account will be credited back to the same account.

Once the application form is submitted and a PDF is generated, the application data cannot be changed.

The submitted application form can be downloaded but the data which is already entered cannot be altered.

Hence, students are advised to be very careful while filling the application form.

Given below is the procedure to apply for IIT JAM:

  • Go to the official website of JAM Online Application Processing System.
  • Register yourself at the IIT JAM website by providing your name, email address, valid mobile number and create a password.
  • After successful IIT JAM registration, an email containing applicant’s enrollment number will be sent to the registered mobile number (provided by the candidate)
  • Now login to JAM 2017 application processing website and fill in information, such as your parent/guardian's name and mobile number, choice of city, and choice of test paper(s) that you wish to appear, date of birth, gender, address for communication, category and PWD status.
  • You are also required to provide your education qualification.
  • Upload a scanned copy of your photograph, signature, and SC/ST/PWD certificate (if applicable)
  • Review your IIT JAM application for one final time and submit.
  • Pay the IIT JAM application fee and submit.
