NEET 2018 Eligibility Overview

Between 17 to 25 years of age. SC/ ST/ OBC :- 5 years of relaxation.
Educational Qualification
Passed 12th examination with PCB as mandatory subjects. General:- 50% aggregate General PH:- 45% aggregate; SC/ ST/ OBC :- 40% aggregate.
Domicile / Reservation
Seats reserved for: SC:- 15%, ST:- 7.5%, Non-creamy layer OBC:- 27%, Physically Handicapped:- 3%.
Candidates from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir are not eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats.

Eligibility Criteria for NEET 2018

Eligibility Criteria:

  • A set of standards has been designed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to filter out the applicants who are not eligible for NEET-UG 2018.

  • Hence, candidates are advised to go through the eligibility criteria set by the conducting board before applying for the NEET 2018.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2018: 

The Eligibility Criteria for NEET-UG 2018 can be broadly categorized into the following:

  • The Nationality of the candidate. 

  • Age of the candidate.

  • Educational Qualification of the candidate.

  • Performance of the candidate in 10+2 or any equivalent qualifying examination.

  • Candidate's total number of attempts for NEET-UG.
  • He/She must be an Aadhar card holder

Eligibility criteria as per the Educational Qualification of the candidate:

  • Minimum Qualification: Candidates applying for NEET 2018 must have passed the 10+2 or any equivalent examination conducted by a recognized board of education.

  • Mandatory Subjects: The candidate must have passed his/her qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as compulsory subjects of the curriculum.  

  • 10+2 Appearing Candidates: Candidates appearing for 10+2 or any other equivalent examination are also eligible to appear for NEET 2018.

Minimum aggregate percentage of marks required in the Qualifying exam as per Categories:

  • General category: The candidate must score an aggregate of 50% in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology).

  • General PH: The candidate must score an aggregate of 45% in PCB.

  • SC/ST/OBC: The candidate must score an aggregate of 40% in PCB.

Eligibility Criteria based on the number of NEET attempts:

  • The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at NEET-UG examination shall be limited to 3 (three) uniformly for all the candidates. regardless of the year of appearing for NEET-UG.

  • The application of any candidate applying for the 4th time will be considered invalid.

Eligibility Criteria for intakes under the control of States/Universities/Institutions/AFMC/Central pool quota:

  • Intakes for MBBS/BDS under the control of states: For the NEET 2018, all the states across India would fill 85% of the seats for MBBS/BDS through the state counseling process.

  • All India Quota: The remaining 15% of the seats would be filled through the All India centralized counseling process.

Eligibility Criteria for 85% Quota Seats in the States:

  • The eligibility criteria are based on rules and regulations framed by the respective state government and is as mentioned below:
  • Indian citizens, NRI's, OCI's and foreign nationals are eligible for admission under the state quota, provided they satisfy the rules framed by the respective state government.

  • Qualification: The candidates must be appearing for or must have passed the 10+2 or any equivalent examination from the respective state to be eligible for NEET 2018.

  • Domicile Proof: To be eligible for NEET 2018, the candidate must possess a valid domicile proof of the respective state.

  • Residential Proof: To be eligible for NEET 2018, the candidate must have a proof of residency in the respective state.

Eligibility criteria based on the Age of the candidate: 

  • Minimum Age: Candidate must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission (or) should complete the age on or before 31st December of the year of the candidate's admission to the 1st year MBBS/BDS Course.

  • Maximum Age: The upper age limit for NEET is 25 years as on the date of examination. 

  • Relaxation for backward categories: For Schedule Caste/ Schedule Tribe/ Other Backward category candidates, the upper age limit is 30 years.

Eligibility Criteria as per the Nationality of the candidate:

All the categories mentioned below are eligible to take up NEET 2018 :

  • Indian Residents (Adhaar card is a must have identity proof for all Indian candidates)

  • Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)

  • Overseas citizens(OCIs)

  • Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)

  • Foreign Nationals

Eligibility Criteria for 15% All India Quota Seats of NEET 2018:

Candidates eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats are as follows: 

  • Indian Nationals

  • Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)

  • Overseas Citizen of India (OCIs)

  • Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)

  • Foreign Nationals are eligible for 15% NEET 2018 All India Quota Seats. 

Exception for Candidates belonging to states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu and Kashmir:

  • As the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir have opted out of NEET 2018 All India Scheme since its inception, candidates from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir are not eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats.

  • If a candidate from the state of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana or Jammu & Kashmir claims eligibility for 15% All India Quota Seats, then they must submit online Self-Declaration which will be generated and printed automatically along with confirmation page for the record and should be presented during counseling.

  • Candidates from the States of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir can appear in NEET for admission to Private Medical/Dental Colleges or any Private/Deemed University and Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune only if provided they fulfill all the eligibility conditions.
  • The online Self Declaration of the candidates will be verified at the time of counseling and if found to be false at any time, the admission of such candidates shall be canceled immediately and criminal proceedings may be initiated against them.
