NEET-UG 2018 Eligibility Criteria:

  • For Candidates who are willing to appear for NEET 2018 must satisfy certain eligibility criteria, laid by the board committee of NEET.

  • All the applicants must go through the eligibility criteria so as to get know whether the candidate is eligible/ not-eligible for NEET-UG 2018.


 The NEET-UG 2018 Eligibility criteria can be divided into following four categories:

  • The nationality of the candidate appearing for NEET 2018. 

  • Age of the candidate appearing for NEET 2018.

  • Educational Qualification of the candidate appearing for NEET 2018.

  • Candidate's Total number of attempts for NEET-UG. 


Eligibility Criteria as per the Nationality of the candidate:

All of the below-mentioned categories are eligible for appearing NEET 2018.

Eligibility criteria as per the Age of the candidate: 

  • Candidate must have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission (or) should complete the age on or before 31st December of the year of the candidate's admission to the 1st year MBBS/BDS Course.

  • The upper age limit for NEET is 25 years as on the date of examination.

Relaxation:

Students who belong to SC/ST/OBC category have a relaxation of 5 years for the upper age limit, i.e, 25 years.


Eligibility criteria as per the Educational Qualification of the candidate:

  • Candidates applying for NEET 2018 must have qualified 12th or any exam equivalent to 10+2.

  • The candidate must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as compulsory subjects. (Also including the Practical exams as per the respective subjects) 

  • Candidates appearing for 10+2 or any other exam equivalent to 10+2 are also eligible to appear for NEET 2018.

  • All candidates appearing for NEET 2018 must score a minimum percentage in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and for different categories, it goes as follows: -                                        

Minimum percentage required in the Qualifying exam as per Categories:

Eligibility criteria as per the Number of attempts:

  • The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at NEET-UG examination shall be limited to 3 (three) uniformly to all the candidates. Regardless of the year appearing for NEET-UG.

 Eligibility for seats under the control of States/Universities/Institutions/AFMC/Central-pool Quota:

  • Any of the Indian Residents, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), overseas citizens(OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) & Foreign Nationals are eligible for admission in Medical/Dental Colleges subject to rules and regulations framed by the respective State Governments, Institution and the Government of India.

  • Foreign nationals are expected to confirm their eligibility from the concerned Medical/Dental college/state.


Eligibility Criteria for 15% All India Quota Seats of NEET 2018:

Following are the eligible categories for NEET 2018 15% All India Quota Seats. 

Candidates eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats

Indian Nationals.

Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).

Overseas Citizen of India (OCIs).

Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs).

Foreign Nationals are eligible for 15% NEET 2018 All India Quota Seats.

Exception for Candidates belonging to states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu and Kashmir

  • Candidates from the States of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir are not eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats, as these States have opted out of NEET 2018 All India Scheme since its inception.

  • If a from a candidate from states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir claim's eligibility for 15% All India Quota Seats, then they must submit online Self-Declaration which will be generated and printed automatically along with confirmation page for the record and should be presented during counseling.

  • The online Self Declaration of the candidates will be verified at the time of counseling and if found to be false at any time, the admission of such candidates shall be canceled immediately and criminal proceedings may be initiated against them.

  • Candidates from the States of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir can appear in NEET for admission to Private Medical/Dental Colleges or any Private/Deemed University and Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune only if provided they fulfill all the eligibility conditions.


The inter-se-merit of candidates for tie-breaking

  • In the case of two or more candidates obtaining equal marks in the NEET (UG) - 2018, the inter-se-merit of such candidates shall be determined in order of preference as follows:

  • Candidates obtaining higher marks in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test.

  • Candidates obtaining higher marks in Chemistry in the Test.

  • Candidates with less number of attempted wrong answers in all the subjects in the Test.

  • Candidates older in age to be preferred.


Overview of Eligibility Criteria:

Age
The candidates must be of 17 years but not above 25 years of age while appearing for the NEET exam. 5 years relaxation for upper age limit for SC/ ST/ OBC category candidates.
Educational Qualification
The candidate should have passed 10+2 examination or its equivalent qualification from a recognized university or board. For General category : 50% in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology). For General PH candidates: 45% in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology). For SC/ ST/ OBC candidates: 40% in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology).
Domicile / Reservation
15% of the seats are reserved for all India quota and the candidates eligible for this quota are (a) Indian nationals. (b) Non-residents of India. (c) Overseas citizen of India. (d) Persons of Indian origin. (e) Foreign nationals.
Exceptions
Candidates from the States of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir are not eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats.

Anyone who studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 10+2 and secured 50%. Also at the time of admission at least completing 17 years (lower age limit) will be eligible to apply. Yes, now all foreign nationals, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) candidates are eligible to apply for 15% all India quota seats. Earlier, 15% all India quota seats were reserved for Indian nationals only for NEET 2017.

No, candidates from the States of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J & K are not eligible for 15% all India quota seats through NEET as these States had opted out of All India Scheme since its inception. If a candidate appearing from any of these states seeks admission under 15 % all India Quota seats, he/she will have to submit the online Self Declaration form along with the application form. The declaration form in such case will make the candidate ineligible for admission in MBBS/BDS programmes in these states.

The eligibility criteria of NEET requires the following:
