SSC CHSL stands for Staff Selection Commission- Combined Higher Secondary Level.Thousands of clerical vacancies in Government departments are filled by SSC through the CHSL exam every year.Posts offered in SSC CHSL are LDC, DEO, Postal Assistants, Sorting Assistants and Court Clerk. For this position, candidates have to clear tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 of SSC CHSL exam.

The Staff Selection Commission conducts Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL,10+2) Exam to recruit candidates into various posts namely

  • Postal Assistants/Sorting Assistants(PA/SA)
  • Data Entry Operators(DEO)
  • Lower Divisional Clerk(LDC)
  • Court Clerk

Before beginning the SSC CHSL preparation, it is important to make note of changes in exam pattern and syllabus.The modifications in SSC CHSL Exam pattern 2018 are given below

  • SSC CHSL 2018 Tier-I exam will be conducted in online mode.
  • Introduction of a descriptive paper of 100 marks with a maximum time limit of 60 min in pen and paper mode.
  • Reduction in the time limit for examination of Tier-I from 120 min to 75 min.
  • Tier-III will remain same.
  • No sectional cut-off.

Tier 1 - Computer-based written examination: The total marks allotted for this test is 200 marks. Each segment in SSC CHSL Online Test has 25 questions and every question carries 2 marks each. Extra 25 minutes has been allowed for the PWD candidates to complete this tier 1 exam. A provision of negative marking is there is this exam, 0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong marked answer. The question paper of this test will be provided in the English and Hindi languages, excluding English language section.

Tier 2 - Descriptive Paper: This paper consists of 100 marks and is conducted in offline mode with the duration of 1 hour and for the candidate of PWD Category the extra time of 20 minutes. This paper includes Essay writing, Letter writing/Application and is to be written either in Hindi or in English.

Tier 3 - Typing Test/Skill Test: SSC will conduct the Typing SKill Test as the final selection procedure for the candidates.During filling of SSC CHSL online application, the candidates have to choose their language medium for skill test.If no such selection is made by the candidate, the test will be conducted in English medium for the candidate. The skill test will be conducted at the Commission’s Regional Centres or the other centers.
