About UGC NET Exam:

  • About: CBSE conducts National Eligibility Test (N.E.T) every year to evaluate the eligibility of Assistant Professor in Indian Universities & Colleges and Junior Research Fellowship.
  • Opportunities: Candidates who have cleared UGC NET Exams can be a part of teaching profession and research on several subjects of Humanities (including Indian and some foreign languages), Social Sciences, Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science, Forensic Science and Environmental Sciences. UGC or other insitutions under various schemes provide fellowship to the candidates who qualify the JRF.
  • Subjects: CBSE conducts UGC NET examination in 84 subjects at 90 selected NET Examination Cities spread across India. The candidates can choose the subjects from their field of excellence and General Aptitude Test is common for all.
  • Frequency: CBSE conducts NET twice a year.
  • Eligibility: Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria can apply for the UGC NET 2018.
  • Stipend: Monthly stipend of Rs. 25,000 will be provided to the selected candidate during the period of Research.
  • Certificates: The E-Certificates of the qualified Candidates is provided by UGC-NET Bureau. 
  • Validity Period: The validity period of the offer is 2 years with respect to the date of issue of JRF Letter. 
  • Syllabus: UGC NET 2018 do not have any specific syllabus.

  • Application Form: UGC NET 2018 application form commences on 10th August 2018 till 10th September 2018.
  • Admit Card: Admit card is sent online on the official website of UGC NET 2018 from 16th October 2018.

  • Results: The result of UGC NET 2018 declares on 9th December 2018.
  • Counselling: After the declaration of result, the counselling process starts from 18th December 2018  for the allotment of seats in various universities and colleges.

UGC NET 2018 Exam Pattern:

  • The UGC NET 2018 exam pattern consists of three papers.
  • Paper-I consists of 50 Questions and with a stipulated time of 75 minutes.
  • Paper-II consists of 50 Questions with a stipulated time of 75 minutes.
  • Paper-III consists of 75 Questions with a stipulated time of 150 minutes.
  • Each question carries 2 marks and the questions are objective.

Details Regarding the Aadhar Card

  • CBSE has decided to use Aadhaar for the applicants of UGC NET(November) 2018, and hereby notifies the following:  
  • Applicants who have Aadhaar card can enter Aadhaar number, name, date of birth & gender in the online application for UGC-NET(November) 2018 in order to identify the applicant and authentication thereof.  
  • Applicants who not yet have possession of Aadhaar, are hereby required to make application for Aadhaar enrolment in case he/she is entitled to obtain Aadhaar. Such applicant may visit any Aadhaar enrollment center to get enrolled for Aadhaar.
  • J&K, Assam & Meghalaya applicant need to enter the Passport number, ration number, bank account number or any other Government identity number provided they should select the city of examination in these states.

Rectification of OMR Sheet

Board has released Notice regarding the release of Photocopy of OMR Sheet and rectification has released by the board, there are some points that are important to note down.

  • The fee for rectification is INR 500/-.
  • The Application should be sent in the name to The Director, UGC NET.
  • Candidates must write the Names with Address & Roll number correctly. In case of payment through Demand Draft, the Name & Roll Number should be mentioned on the backside.
  • The Photocopy will not be allowed for commercial purposes in any colleges or institutes.

  • Age Limit:

 Junior Research Fellowship: Candidates must not be above 28 years of age as on January 1st 2018.

Assistant Professor: Candidates should be above 28 years of age as on January 2018.

 5 years age relaxation will be given to the candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD/OBC category and Women.

The age relaxation is also provisioned for the candidates with experience of research.

The categorical relaxation in age will be allowed on the ground of producing relevant certificates.

10th standard marks sheet or passing certificate and DOB certificate need to be submitted for proof of age.

  • Qualification:

At least 55% marks should be secured by candidates belonging to the General category in their Master Degree or equivalent Examination from a university recognised by UGC.

The candidates belonging to the OBC/SC/ST/PWD categories should have completed their Master’s degree or equivalent program with at least 50% of marks to be eligible for UGC NET.

  • The Applicants must read the conditions of eligibility carefully and must satisfy themselves regarding their eligibility for the Test before filling the online application and submitting the printout of Online Application Form.
  • Before applying Online, the Applicants should possess the Scanned passport size photograph in JPG format of minimum 4kb and less than 40 kb. The dimension of the photograph should be 3.5 cm (width) X 4.5 cm (height).
  • After filling all the details for applying online for NET the Applicants have to select the option of payment of examination fee either by credit/debit card or through e-challan generated during the online filling of the application form indicating your details therein and follow the process as mentioned.
  • Applicants seeking age relaxation must enclose the certificate of educational qualification/research experience entitling the Applicants for age relaxation.
  • The Application along with Bank Challan and other required documents must reach the Registrar/Principal of the Coordinating Institution.
  • The Applicants should retain the printout of online Admission card with them and will bring it on the day of examination after affixing the identical passport size photograph.
  • The Applicants must affix their recent identical passport size photographs, at the places indicated, on the printout of Online Application Form and Attendance Slip must sign across the photograph after it is affixed so that a part of the signature spreads over the Application Form and Attendance Slip beyond the photograph. Besides, it should be duly attested by the Head of the University Department/ Principal of the College/Class-I Gazetted Officer.

  • UGC NET Examination fee for General Category is Rs. 600, for OBC is Rs. 300, for SC/ST/PWD candidates the fee is Rs.150.
  • The exam fee can be paid by online method or by e-challan generated at the time of filling the application form.
  • Is it advised that to ensure that the fee has been successfully submitted, the candidate is required to check the status of fee payment at CBSE UGC website.
  • If the UGC NET fee is paid through credit/debit card and status appears as not ‘OK’, it means the transaction has been canceled and the amount will be refunded.
  • If the UGC NET exam fee is paid through e-challan by depositing cash in the above-mentioned bank, the candidate should contact the concerned bank immediately to update his/her fee status on the website.

UGC NET 2018 Exam Pattern

The UGC NET exam consists of three papers, split into three different sessions:

  • All the candidates should attend paper 1 which consists of 60 questions. Only 50 questions need to be answered. Paper 1 duration is set to 75 minutes.
  • 25 minutes of compensatory time shall be provided for Paper-1 and Paper-2 separately
  • Paper 2 has 50 questions. All the questions are mandatory. The time duration for paper 2 is set to 75 minutes.
  • Paper 3 has 75 questions all of which are compulsory. the time duration for paper 3 is set to 150 minutes.
  • Marks Allotted: Paper 1: 100 marks, Paper 2: 100 marks, Paper 3: 150 marks.
  • Provision for persons with disabilities: 25 minutes of compensatory time shall be provided for Paper-1 and Paper-2 separately. 50 minutes of compensatory time shall be provided for Paper-3. CBSE will also provide the test booklet in Braille, for the visually challenged candidates. Candidates who are not in a position to attempt the exam on their own can request the services of a scribe by making a prior request.

Steps to check your UGC NET exam results:

  • Amongst candidates who will clear Step I, a merit list will then be prepared subject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate marks of all the three papers secured by such candidates.
  • separate merit list for the award of Junior Research Fellow will be prepared from amongst the UGC NET qualified candidates.
  • The top 15 percent candidates according to the merit list are qualified to apply for the Assistant Professor position.
