UPSC IAS 2018 Eligibility

Eligibility Summary for UPSC IAS


  • If the candidate opts for IAS/IPS, they must be an Indian citizen to satisfy the eligibility criteria for UPSC IAS.
  • For becoming an IFS (Indian Foreign Service) officer, the candidate must be a citizen of India or they should be a migrant (settled in India) to satisfy the eligibility for UPSC IAS.
  • For other posts, the candidates should be an Indian Citizen or a subject of Bhutan/Nepal or a Tibetian refugee or a Migrant from Pakistan/Burma/Sri Lanka/East AfricanCountries to satisfy the eligibility criteria for UPSC IAS

Educational qualification summary

  • A candidate must be a graduate to apply for UPSC IAS
  • Candidate who is in the final year of graduation or whose final exam result is yet to be published is also eligible to apply
  • The Minimum age to apply for UPSC IAS is 21 years
  • The Upper age limit is 32 years for candiadates belonging to Unreserved category
  • A total number of 6 attempts are availbale for candidates belonging to unreseved category
  • There is no maximum number of attempts for candidates belonging to SC/ST category
