  • Abbreviation:  West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE 2018) is an objective type common entrance examination for admission to the undergraduate and postgraduate level courses in engineering in the state of West Bengal. 

  • Admissions: WBJEE help to get admissions for the top colleges of Engineering, Architecture, Medical, Dental and Pharmacy in West Bengal.
  • Authority: WBJEE exam is conducted every year by West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board.

  • Level: Since 1962, the board is working continuously for the enhancement of transparency in conducting WBJEE exam for various Undergraduate and Postgraduate level courses in the State.

  • Courses: The various professional undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered in Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy, Medical, Dental and Architecture in Universities, Government Colleges as well as Self Financing Engineering & Technological Institutes in the State of West Bengal.

  • Qualification: The candidate is eligible for West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE - 2018) only if the student has completed the 12th std or appearing in 12th standard in 2018 with the Science stream - which is Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and Biology along with this candidate age, domicile are also taken into consideration.
  • Curriculum: The syllabus consists of topics from the class 10+2 level examinations. The examination will be conducted in pen and paper-based and there will be multiple choice questions. 

  • Mandatory: Candidates need to attempt Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry paper if they applied for engineering courses and for medical course candidate needed to attempt an additional biology paper in WBJEE 2018 examination.

  • West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board announced the date of exam for the year 2018.

  • The WBJEE 2018 exam will be conducted on 22nd April 2018 (Sunday).

  • The application form filling process for the WBJEE 2018 will possibly start from 5th January 2018.  


Important dates for WBJEE 2018:

  • Application form: Application Form for WBJEE 2018 will be available from 5th January 2018 till 5th February 2018 .

WBJEE 2018 Eligibility:

  • Age: Candidates must be minimum of 17 years old to apply for WBJEE 2018 examination.
  • Qualification: Candidates must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination in General Stream in the regular class mode of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/Board as an eligibility.

  • Domicile: All the applicants must be a citizen of India. Non-domicile of West Bengal candidates are not allowed to write medical or dental exams but are eligible for admission in WBJEE 2018 engineering courses.


WBJEE 2018 Admit Card:

  • Availability: The WBJEE 2018 admit card will be available for the candidates on the official website after filling the application form.

  • Date: Candidates can download the WBJEE 2018 admit card form 24th March 2018.

  • Must carry: It is necessary to carry admit card for the examination hall, without the admit card the candidate will be allowed to sit for the exam.


WBJEE 2018 Syllabus :

  • Subjects: The WBJEE include the subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry and biological science.

WBJEE 2018 Exam Pattern:

  • Mode: WBJEE 2018 examination will be conducted in offline mode (pen and paper-based).

  • Duration & Partition: Candidates will be having four hours to complete the examination. The paper will be divided into three categories and consist of multiple choice questions.

WBJEE 2018 Registration:

  • Documents: Candidates should upload the scanned copy of photography, signature, and left thumbprint impression while filing the WBJEE 2018 application form.
  • Particulars: The candidates are advised to use this system generated Application Number along with his/her date of birth for any future login to the WBJEE 2018 registration portal.

WBJEE 2018 Counselling:

  • Counselling date: The seat allotment process for the qualified candidates of WBJEE 2018 will begin from 26th June 2018.

  • Registration process: Candidates have to fill their choices for their branch and institute preference. The registration fee is INR 500.

WBJEE 2018 Result:

  • Result date: The WBJEE results will be announced on 3rd June 2018 on the official website.

  • Process: The result will be displayed once the candidate clicks the submit option and admissions will be given on the basis of merit.

Guidelines for WBJEE Exam 2018:

  • Candidate will be allowed to enter the examination hall 25 minutes before the start of each session of examination.

  • Candidate will be allowed to carry with them in the examination hall only the following items:

1) Admit card

2) Ballpoint pen

  • Calculators, Mobile Phones, Log tables, electronics gadgets with built-in calculators, black or printed paper, written chits, etc are not allowed in the examination.

  • The candidate has to show his/her Admit card to the invigilator and the Board appointed officials as and when required.
  • In case of impersonation, the candidate of the concerned candidate will be cancelled outright and the impersonator will be handed over to police for criminal prosecution.

  • No candidate will be allowed to leave the examination hall before the session ends. At the end of the session, the candidate must hand over the OMR sheet to the invigilator on duty. If the candidate leaves the examination hall without handling over the OMR sheet to the invigilator on duty, his/her will be cancelled.

  • Violation of any other examination norm in the examination hall during any session of the examination may lead to cancellation of the candidate.

  • Candidate without Admit card or with Admit card having defigured soiled or distorted photographs will not be allowed to sit for the examination.

  • Candidate must write his/her question booklet number at designated places on the OMR sheer and photo Attendance Sheet falling which his/her OMR sheet will not be evaluated and the candidate will stand cancelled.

Important Dates Summary for WBJEE 2018 

  • Online forms can be filled from 5th January 2018. 

  • The last date of online form fill-up including payment and the downloading of confirmation page is 5th February 2018.

  • The window for correction will be open from February 6th 2018 to February 8th 2018.

  • The Admit card can be downloaded by the candidates on 24th March 2018.

  • The WBJEE exam will be conducted on 22nd April 2018.

  • Exam Timings: Paper 1 (Mathematics) will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. Paper 2 (Physics & Chemistry) will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Eligibility Summary for WBJEE 2018 

  • Age Limit: Candidates need to be at least 17 years as on 31.12.2017 to be eligible to apply for the Engineering/ Technology course (other than Marine Engineering), Pharmacy and Architecture Courses. Candidates need to be at least 17 years as on 31.12.2017 and not more than 25 years as on 31.07.2017 to be eligible to apply for the Marine Engineering course.Candidates must be at least 17 years as on 31.12.2017 to be eligible to apply for the Medical/Dental course.

  • Domicile Requirement: The Domicile requirement is an eligibility criterion for admission to different degree level Medical, Dental, Engineering/Technology, Pharmacy & Architecture courses in West Bengal.

  • Jadavpur University: Candidates must pass 10+2 examination in the regular class mode of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/ Board. Candidates should have had Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates should have a minimum of 60% marks (45% for SC/ST/PWD candidates) and must pass in English with a minimum of 30% (for all categories) in the qualifying examination.

  • Calcutta University: Candidates must pass 10+2 examination in a regular class mode of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/ Board. Candidates should have had Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates should have a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PWD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) and must pass in English with a minimum of 30% (for all categories) in the qualifying examination.

  • Department of Jute and Fibre Technology, Calcutta University: Candidates must pass 10+2 examination in the regular class mode of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/ Board. Candidates should have had Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology as compulsory subjects. Candidates should have a minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/PWD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) and must pass in English with minimum 30% marks (for all categories) in the qualifying examination.

  • Other Universities: Candidates must pass 10+2 examination in a regular class mode of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/ Board. Candidates should have had Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates should have a minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/PWD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) and must pass in English with minimum 30% marks (for all categories) in the qualifying examination.

  • Marine Engineering: Candidates must pass 10+2 examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/ Board. Candidates should score 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in each subject and score a minimum of 50% marks in either 10 or 10+2.

  • Jadavpur University: Candidates must have had Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates should have scored 60% marks in the subjects mentioned (45% for SC/ ST/ PWD candidates). Candidates should have 60% in mathematics (45% for SC/ ST/ PWD candidates) and English with minimum 30% marks (for all category candidates) in the qualifying examination. Candidates must qualify either in NATA or in Paper 2 of JEE Mains.

  • The Council of Architecture has specified that candidates should have scored minimum 50% marks to be eligible. Candidates who have scored less than 50% marks should have passed an examination at the end of new (10+2) scheme of Senior School Certificate Examination or equivalent with Mathematics as a subject of Examination at the 10+2 level. Candidates must qualify either in NATA or in Paper 2 of JEE Mains.

  • Jadavpur University: Candidates must pass 10+2 examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/ Board. Candidates should have had Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates should have minimum 60% marks in the above subjects (45% for SC/ ST/ PWD candidates). Candidates should have 60% in mathematics (45% for SC/ ST/ PWD candidates) and English with minimum 30% (for all category candidates) in the qualifying examination.

  • Other Institutes: Candidates must pass Higher Secondary examination state board or any qualified board of examination which is recognized by the government of India with physics, chemistry, and biology as their compulsory subjects. Candidates should have scored a minimum of 45% marks in the subjects mentioned (40% for SC/ST/PWD/OBC candidates) and English with minimum 30% marks (for all category candidates) in the qualifying examination.

  • Medical/Dental Courses: Medical Council of India has specified that candidates must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination recognized by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences in regular mode with pass marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English to be eligible. Candidates must have scored 50% marks in the subjects mentioned ( 40% for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates, 45% for PWD candidates) and English English with minimum 30% marks (for all category candidates) in the qualifying examination.

  • Candidates should produce a medical fitness certificate during the counseling process.

  • The WBJEE exam is a pen paper-based exam.

  • The exam consists of multiple choice questions.

  • The subjects for the WBJEE exam are Biological Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

  • There will be 115, 40, 40, and 75 questions from Biological Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics respectively.

  • There are three types of question categories which are as below: -

  • Question Category 1: Only one option is correct. A correct option will yield 1 mark and an incorrect option will yield -1/4 (negative) marks. For any combination of more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -¼ (negative) marks.

  • Question Category 2: Only one option is correct. A correct option will yield 2 marks and an incorrect option will yield -1/2 (negative) marks. For any combination of more than one option, the said answers will be treated as incorrect and yield -½ (negative ½) marks.

  • Question Category 3: One or more options are correct. Marking all correct options only will yield 2 (two) marks. For any combination of answers containing one or more incorrect options, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and it will yield zero (0) marks. For partially correct answers the marks awarded will be 2 X (number of correct options marked) / (total number of actually correct options).

  • The counselling process will begin from 26th June 2018 

  • There will be three rounds of counselling in total.

  • Candidates need to register online and pay the fees online after remitting the fee. Candidates have to fill their choices for their branch and institute preference. The registration fee is INR 500/-

  • There will be different stages of counselling such as Online Registration, Choice Filling, Seat Allocation, Reporting and Document Verification and Confirmation and Admission.

  • The documents to be submitted during the counselling process are Class X Admit card, WBJEE 2018 Admit Card, Category Certificate, if Applicable, Higher Secondary/ Class XII Mark Sheet, Print out of WBJEE 2018/ JEE Main 2018 rank from official website, Receipt of Online Counselling Registration Fee (E-challan receipt), WBJEE 2018 Allotment Letter, Domicile Certificate, if Applicable and PWD Certificate, if Applicable.

  • The online registration process, declaration of Round 1 seat allotment and Round 1-Physical reporting, document verification initial fee payment, a collection of allotment cards at RC centers and withdrawal of admission will be conducted in the month of June 2018.

  • The declaration of Round 2 seat allotment, Round 2 – Physical reporting, document verification, initial fee payment, collection of allotment cards at RC centers, withdrawal of admission, Declaration of Round 3 allotment, Round 3 – Physical reporting, document verification, initial fee payment, collection of allotment cards at RC centers, withdrawal of admission will be in the month of July 2018.

  • The last date for physical reporting and admission for the final allotted institute by all the candidates who have been allocated a seat and E-Admission Procedure will be in the month of July 2018.

Admission procedure in the college is according to ranking and until the number of seats are filled up. In this course, I have to pass all theoretical as well as practical subjects. The cutoffs are 50% for every subject.

There are no provisions' provided by WBJEE to the candidates to change the Exam Centre of WBJEE under any circumstances.

In any candidate forgets to LOCK one’s choice; the same will be locked as per procedure mentioned in the guidelines enumerated in the related government order because unlocked choices will not be considered for seat allotment through this e-Counseling process for the WBJEE 2017.

TFW Scheme stands for ‘Tuition Fee Waiver’ Scheme. Students from economically weaker family (i.e. having total Annual Family Income from all sources less than Rs. 2.50 Lakhs), domiciled of West Bengal and Merit Listed in WBJEE-2017 can opt for seats under this Scheme. Their entire Tuition Fee shall be waived during the entire course duration. Other fees, like admission fee, Library Fee, caution deposits, etc shall have to be paid by students. 

The allotment shall be made strictly based on Merit and Preference only. 5 % Seats, on the supernumerary basis, in all AICTE approved Course in all Engineering, Technology and Pharmacy Colleges of the State are available under this TFW Scheme.

Private and self-financing Engineering, Technology and Pharmacy Colleges have been allowed to admit students up to maximum of 10% of approved seats (course wise) directly amongst students merit listed under the WBJEE (Engineering) or AIEEE (Engineering & Architecture) fulfilling eligibility criteria as per the general guidelines enumerated in the Information Brochure of those seats are known as Management Quota Seats. Filling up of seats under this Quota is beyond the purview of e-Counseling. The fee for such seats shall not be more than three times the fee prescribed for general students admitting in the academic year.

West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WB JEE - 2017) is an objective common engineering or medical entrance examination which is conducted for admission to Bachelor’s program in various engineering and medical colleges in West Bengal.

The examination enables candidates to seek admission in Medical, Dental, Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy and Architecture in Universities, Govt. Colleges and Self-Financed Institutes in the State. WB JEE exam is generally taken after a student successfully completes his/her 12th std. West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WB JEE - 2017) can only be taken if the student has completed the 12th std in the Science stream - which is Physics, Chemistry Maths and Biology. 

The WB JEE Medical and WB JEE has a difference although both have similar test names. For the WB JEE Medical, biology paper is given while for the WB JEE Engineering, mathematics paper is given. For West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WB JEE - 2017), negative marking is applicable with 30% of the total marks being deducted for every wrong answer.
